Friday 29. August 2008 - This is the last a series of articles on the DuPont 2008 Sustainability Progress Report that will appear in DuPont News.
The 2008 Sustainability Progress Report highlights the DuPont 2015 sustainability goals, the companys progress against them, as well as examples of progress.
One goal is to nearly double revenues from non-depletable resources to at least USD 8 billion. So far, it has grown to USD 5.8 billion.
An example is Sorona — an advanced material offering a unique combination of attributes beneficial in a wide variety of applications, including textile fibers and fabrics for home interiors, apparel and carpeting. Sorona contains 37 percent renewably sourced material (by weight) derived from corn. A breakthrough in polymer science, the key ingredient in Sorona is BIO-PDO produced by the DuPont Tate & Lyle BioProducts joint venture.
Another goal is to introduce at least 1,000 new products or services that help make people safer globally. The total number of introductions in 2007 was 126.
An example is 300 denier Kevlar Correctional technology — the latest Kevlar innovation in personal protec tion – which DuPont introduced last year. Providing a moderately priced, concealable anti-spike solution, this patented technology helps vests meet (U.S.) National Institute of Justice standards and, when blended with other Kevlar ballistic materials, can provide multiple threat protection from both bullets and hand-made weapons.
