HP Announces Participation in 2008 Political Conventions

Monday 18. August 2008 - Technology resources help reduce environmental impact of conventions

HP today announced that it has signed contracts to become the official provider of notebooks and digital output solutions for the Democratic National Convention in Denver and the official provider of mobility and digital output solutions for the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis.

“The conventions are an important part of the presidential election process and HP is pleased to partner with both parties for the conventions in 2008, just as we did in 2000 and 2004,” said Gary Fazzino, vice president, Government Affairs, HP.

Much of the equipment that HP will provide to the conventions will allow for increased energy efficiency. For example, staffers at the RNC will use the HP Compaq dc5700 and dc7700 business desktops, which were the first PCs in the industry to meet the latest ENERGY STAR standards, meaning they use less energy and will cost less for the conventions to power compared to older PCs.

In addition, HP will provide a portfolio of printers and multifunction devices to support the planning efforts of the conventions, helping to print everything from floor plans to posters. Specifically, the equipment to be provided includes the HP CM8060 Color Multifunction Printer (MFP) with Edgeline Technology and the HP Designjet T1100 and Z6100 large-format printers. Workers at the DNCC are using the HP Designjet Z6100 large-format printer to produce plans for the convention floor layout, staging and other logistical aspects of the event.

The CM8060 Color MFP will enable convention staff to print materials quickly – up to 71 pages per minute – with outstanding print quality and reliability and at a low cost of operation. The ENERGY STAR-compliant MFP saves energy by entering the lowest power sleep mode 15 minutes after the end of a print job and by enabling complete power shutdown while the machine is still plugged into a power source.

“HP is committed to helping this year’s conventions reduce their environmental impact and to engineering products, software and services that help individuals and businesses to do the same,” said Fazzino.

Following the conventions, the equipment that HP is providing will be donated to schools and non-profit organizations in the Denver and Minneapolis areas.
