Tuesday 05. August 2008 - Showcase brewhouse with leading-edge technology

In a turnkey order, Krones AG, Neutraubling, Germany, is supplying the privately owned Licher Brewery with a new brewhouse, capable of producing 475 hl of hot cast wort from 11 brews a day. The brewery “from the heart of the countryside” is one of the most prestigious players on the German brewery scene, and since 2004 has been part of the Bitburger Group.
The future brewhouse at the Licher Brewery’s tradition-steeped facility in the Hessian town of Lich will feature state-of-the-art Steinecker brewhouse technology from Krones: two ShakesBeer mashing systems, a Pegasus lauter tun, the Stromboli internal boiler system, a classical whirlpool, plus the requisite peripherals, like a buffer tank, a hops supply, a CIP system, an energy storage system and a water house. The crucial factor in deciding the client to opt for Krones was the turnkey delivery of high-tech brewhouse components and a complete-coverage control system from a single source. “We found Krones’ all-inclusive concept very persuasive”, reveals Dr. Ulrich Peters, and adds: “We’re really pleased to have a successful, customer-responsive, quality-committed firm like Krones on our side.” The new brewhouse will be used to create the client’s renowned bottom- and top-fermented speciality beers like Licher Pilsner, Licher Weizen Hefe hell, from which the popular Licher x² Mixes are also produced.

Licher will be showcasing the new technology to optimum effect, because the brewery gets 20,000 visitors a year. The brewhouse is already being given an inviting glass frontage for enhanced visitor appeal; the brewing lines now in place will not be affected. Krones will be delivering the first tanks in August, and the entire brewhouse project will have been completed by the end of 2008, so that the new brewhouse can start operation at the beginning of 2009. This is all part of a long-term capital investment programme at the facility in Lich. To quote Dr. Ulrich Peters: “We’re also planning some further initiatives for modernising our brewery.”
