Giesecke & Devrient Displays Works of Art by Max Klinger at “Brillantfeuerwerk” Exhibition
Thursday 31. July 2008 - The celebrations marking the 850th birthday of the city of Munich will include an art exhibition entitled "Brillantfeuerwerk" ("Cascade of Fireworks"), which is to be held at Munichs Haus der Kunst from September 10, 2008 to January 11, 2009. Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) is one of eleven Munich companies contributing to the exhibition, and will be showing ten works by Max Klinger dating from the years 1882 to 1885. The etchings on display were printed at what was then the head office of Giesecke & Devrient in Leipzig at the end of the 19th century.
Max Klinger was a painter, sculptor and graphic artist who lived from 1857 to 1920. Most of his work is classified as belonging to the symbolism movement. On display at the “Brillantfeuerwerk” exhibition will be etchings from Klingers series “Vom Tode. Erster Theil.” (“On Death. Part One.”). They were printed at what was then the head office of Giesecke & Devrient in Leipzig, and are now in the possession of Verena von Mitschke-Collande, shareholder of Giesecke & Devrient GmbH. In exhibiting these works by Max Klinger, Giesecke & Devrient not only wishes to underscore its solidarity with the city of Munich, but also to reveal how extraordinary the art of printing was at the close of the 19th century.
Giesecke & Devrient is playing an active part in numerous activities celebrating Munichs 850th birthday. Besides the “Cascade of Fireworks” art exhibition, a further exhibition entitled “Geld und Wert in München” (“Money and Value in Munich”) will display historic coins, paper money and securities at the G&D banknote museum. G&D is also participating in the jointly sponsored “850 Talents” campaign, in which Munich-based companies have declared their commitment to the future by organizing 850 jobs.
The Bavarian capitals 850th birthday provides the occasion for an unusual exhibition entitled “Brillantfeuerwerk” (“Cascade of Fireworks”): Eleven well-known Munich companies are opening their art collections to the public, jointly presenting works that have never before been publicly displayed in this way. The companies involved are: Allianz, BMW, E.ON Energie, Generali Versicherungen, Giesecke & Devrient, Hubert Burda Media, HypoVereinsbank, The Linde Group, Münchener Rück, Siemens, and Südhausbau. The event is being organized by Molitor&Stigler Events.
