SIGNIFICANTLY ENHANCED PRINT QUALITY FROM ECRMS MAKO 4MATIC MEANS INCREASED ORDERS FOR TRÜKIKODA TRÜKIS AS
Tuesday 22. July 2008 - Estonias first MAKO 4matic installation described by dealer, Graphic Systems AS, as resounding success
Estonian printshop, Trükikoda Trükis AS, has seen a dramatic increase in its print orders since the installation of ECRMs MAKO 4matic in February this year. Crediting the leading imaging specialist with significantly enhancing its print quality across both commercial and newspaper print work, Trükikoda Trükis AS claims that its customers immediate reaction to the enhanced quality was to place more orders.
Overall Impact
Managing Director of Trükikoda Trükis AS, Mr. Ermo Kask enthused, “Weve been really impressed with the MAKO 4matic, not least of because the quality of print has been exceptional. The impact of this has meant increased orders and, despite producing up to 185 plates per day, our new CTP machine continues to print perfect quality plates. Plus, this has impacted on all other areas of the business from reducing waste and providing significant time savings to better quality output and increased business efficiency.”
Fixing a Bottleneck
With a growing business base across both commercial and newspaper sectors, Trükikoda Trükis AS first decided to purchase a CTP device from ECRM through its Estonian dealer, Graphic Systems AS, when plate production caused an enormous bottleneck. Describing how the companys printing presses were basically at a stand-still waiting for plates to be made, Ermo believed that flexibility of print and efficiency of platemaking were integral to making the business work even better, and more efficiently, for his customers.
Ermo said, “We print local newspapers including Põhjarannik, Severnoe poberezje plus some weeklies like TV-Nedelja, as well as various commercial jobs, so we really needed our presses to work to their optimum capacity. Prior to the installation of the MAKO 4matic, this just wasnt possible. Plate production was causing us huge problems and holding us up on many jobs.”
Customers Take Notice
“Following the installation, we noticed immediate improvements across the business, as did our customers. We chose ECRMs MAKO 4matic with help from Graphic Systems AS, because it fulfilled all of our business requirements from the right format and full automation, to reliability and cost-effectiveness. And, we have not been disappointed, [as] all of our reasons for choosing it have been confirmed since the installation.”
Graphic Systems AS Meets Special Needs
With very specific business needs, Estonian Dealer, Graphic Systems AS arranged for ECRM to build a special platesetter for its client, Trükikoda Trükis AS. The width of the platesetter was enlarged by 2mm because Trukis operated with a unique plate format of 637mm x 900mm. And, because the company had three different plate sizes, its MAKO 4matic was equipped with three loading cassettes on trolleys. Their workflow contains a fully automatic plate-making line (equipped with an online processor), an ECRM RIP with CIP3 Option, and an optional driver for an Epson 7880 Proofer. Commenting on the installation at Trükikoda Trükis AS, Urmas Pauklin, Graphic Systems AS, said, “ECRMs installation of the CTP line was a very quick and efficient one. The whole installation and training for the new equipment took about a week, but the first plates from the MAKO 4matic were produced on the evening of day two and then used in production on day three of the installation – all very impressive. Plus, ECRMs machinery is extremely simple to operate and provides so many benefits that Trükikoda Trükis AS has been very pleased with the improvements it has already made to the business. The installation has been a resounding success.”
Meeting the Business Need
Ermo enthuses, “ECRM worked hard with Graphic Systems AS to fully understand our business and we were impressed that a specific version of the MAKO 4matic was created especially for us. Plus, were so pleased with it operationally that were already looking at ways to add even more options to its workflow.”
About MAKO 4matic at Trükikoda Trükis AS
As an automated, fully featured, 4-page CTP solution, the MAKO 4matic was developed for commercial printers demanding high quality output through cost-effective operation. As an ideal replacement for an aging imagesetter, the MAKO 4matic was installed at Trükikoda Trükis AS to specifically take a lot of the work from its existing three year old imagesetter.
Accommodating 2, 4 and 6 page presses, the MAKO 4matic installed at Trükikoda Trükis AS delivers 20 B2 plates in 150 lpi for sheetfed presses per hour, and up to 30 in 85 lpi for newspaper presses. According to Ermo, the actual platemaking times are dramatically faster, up to 3 times quicker than before the MAKO 4matic was installed.
Providing generous space for over-sized jobs, the MAKO 4matic has an optional automated in-line press notch punching which can accommodate either Bacher support (220mm and 425mm) or Komori support (550cm) or both. And, with ECRMs benchmark qualities of ease of installation, fully automated operation, basic electricity requirements and value-for-money, Trükikoda Trükis AS Managing Director, Ermo has described it as “a very good investment.”
A Good Business Decision
“Weve been operating in the North East region of Estonia since 1949 and have always been interested in the latest technologies and how our business efficiency could be improved,” adds Ermo. “ECRMs MAKO 4matic has meant that there is practically no need for prepress personnel to be involved in preparing plates for regular newspapers.
“Using Dynastrip Automation in our platemakeing workflow has allowed us to automate all the operations. After the pages of the newspaper reach the printshops server, they will be checked, imposed, RIPed, and output on the plates without any operator intervention. Plus, the quality of the plates is so high that the press operators can set-up very quickly and theres far less wasted paper in the printshop now.”
