Konica Minolta to display bizhub C650 series at 2008 Hokkaido Toyako G8 summit

Friday 11. July 2008 - The bizhub C650 series is shown at the prestigious Environmental Showcase during the 2008 Hokkaido Toyako G8 summit. The multifunctional product (MFP) represents Konica Minolta’s achievements in innovative technologies that come up with high ecological benefits, namely reduced energy consumption, lower CO2 emissions and RoHS compliance. The showcase takes place from 5 to 10 July, 2008 and Konica Minolta’s demonstration is held within the International Media Center.

The Environmental Showcase of the G8 summit at Hokkaido Toyako is part of the efforts by the Japanese government to exhibit the most cutting edge environmental technologies. At the summit, world leaders are meeting to discuss the world economy, environmental concerns, African development and other international issues. The participating countries in this year’s Hokkaido Toyako summit include Japan, the European Union, the United States of America, Canada, the French Republic, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Italy, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Within this context, media and press from all over the world will have a chance to look at Japan’s latest environmentally sound technologies.

The Konica Minolta bizhub C650 series is part of this distinguished Environmental Showcase: An award-winning colour office system with reduced CO2 emissions and energy saving qualities for which it has already earned several prizes. Together with its sister product, the bizhub C550, it was rewarded with the highly esteemed energy conservation award from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in March 2008, the “Energy Conservation Grand Prize for Excellent Energy Conservation Equipment”. It has also received the German Blue Angel and the international Energy Star, falling below the strict ecological standards and demands necessary to receive these internationally trusted certifications. In addition, the bizhub C650 series complies with RoHS: It does not use any toxic substances designated by the EU and is not only recyclable but already consists of many recycled parts.

The reason for the Konica Minolta bizhub C650 being so particularly low in energy consumption and CO2 emissions lies in the leading technologies the MFP features, such as the Induction Heating (IH) Fixing technology and the Simitri HD polymerised toner. The IH Fixing technology, used in the Konica Minolta bizhub C650 series, significantly reduces power consumption through efficient heating during the energy-intensive toner-fixing process. In conventional MFPs this process accounts for more than 60 percent of the total power consumed, mainly due to the longer warm-up time. Applying the IH Fixing technology to MFPs has allowed Konica Minolta to shorten this warm-up time considerably, resulting in a successful reduction of ready mode power consumption. Furthermore, Konica Minolta’s bizhub C650 is 20 to 40 percent faster than previous models and features reduced wake-up times, using up less energy.

The Simitri HD polymerised toner is responsible for additionally reducing power consumption starting as early as in its own production cycle. And this toner is made of particularly small and uniform particles that are soft on the inside and hard on the outside which allows the toner to melt at lower temperatures. Thus, the MFP needs less power for the fixing process. Additionally, manufacturing of Konica Minolta’s polymerised toner saves energy, too.

“Technology is not only the key for leading products but also a major factor for creating environmentally sound systems”, says Olaf Lorenz, General Manager International Marketing Division of Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe.
“The commitment to maintain the environment has always been part of Konica Minolta´s overall business strategy, as we understand ourselves as global citizens with all the responsibilities that come with it. Being part of the 2008 Hokkaido Toyako G 8 summit, the worldwide summit of environmental concerns, is an important appreciation of our efforts and ambition to lower our ecological footprint.”
