Komori LS29 Provides State of the Art Solutions for Wheelden Print’s Customers

L-R: Peter Minchella, managing director and Christian Minchella, sales director

Thursday 10. July 2008 - Bradford based commercial colour printers Wheelden Print Ltd has taken delivery of a new five-colour Komori Lithrone S29.

This is a milestone for the company; established in 1994 it is the first time the business has invested in a brand new press in its 14 year history. Originally founded as E Wheelden Bradford Ltd in 1946 by the late Elliot Wheelden (great uncle of the current directors), the print house has been managed by the same family ever since and is now run by managing director Peter Minchella and sales director Christian Minchella. Wheelden Print offers a full range of services, from typesetting and artwork to digital print, to clients spanning the direct mail, marketing, legal and financial sectors. The company employs a staff team of 15 and turned over £1.2 million last year. The new Lithrone S29 will replace an older Lithrone 28 and the increased automation will dramatically increase productivity. In addition to exceptionally short make-ready, the Lithrone S29 has a maximum printing speed of 16,000sph with ultra-stable print quality, and a high-speed pre-inking system. These functions work together to reduce the time from the end of one 200-page job to the start of the next job down to a mere six minutes. Wheeldens will not only be able to compete for more work from existing customers by offering shorter turnaround; the increased capacity and exceptional quality will allow the firm to take on new clients.

Peter Minchella commented: “We looked at the Komori LS29 in operation and its level of automation and production capacity was extremely impressive. This investment will not only add to the quality of our product but will also increase the levels of service we can give to our customers.”

Over the last few years the print house has invested in a range of finishing equipment, and installed the north of England’s first Xerox Digital Press in 2001. The company now operates the Docucolour 5000, establishing a reputation for providing high quality digital and variable data print as well as top class sheetfed.

Christian concludes: “The introduction of the new Lithrone will provide our customers with every print solution – state of the art litho or digital print.”
