GBC presents its Scuff-FreeTM Matte Film for greater visual impact and perceived value
Thursday 03. July 2008 - GBC Commercial Laminating Solutions Group, part of Acco Brands Corporation (NYSE: ABD - news) and a world market leader in print finishing equipment and consumables, introduces the GBC Scuff-FreeTM Matte Film, a unique combination of polypropylene and an abrasion-resistant coating that protects and enhances the look of printed materials.
Its matte finish minimizes glare while preserving image color and providing a durable, scratch-resistant surface to protect book covers, brochures and packaging applications. The GBC Scuff-Free Matte Film was specifically engineered to accept UV spot coating, thus allowing for greater flexibility on the design side to create an even greater visual impact. The matte finish gives a luxurious appearance that attracts the buyers attention and increases the perceived value of the products on display.
A durable, scratch-free finish for protecting books from wear-and-tear
Matte laminating film has long been regarded with a love and hate relationship throughout the book industry. The sophisticated, high quality look given by matte film to book covers was nearly eliminated by its propensity to scuff and scratch causing the desired effect to virtually disappear.
To this purpose, GBC has developed a solution: a Scuff-Free matte laminating film. With a unique abrasion-resistant formulation, the GBC Scuff-Free Matte Film eliminates scuff and scratch marks without compromising the lustrous look and feel of traditional matte finishes.
Customers active in the Publishing & Commercial Print market appreciate the application versatility of the Scuff-Free Matte film. Arnout Janssen, Marketing Director EMEA GBC Commercial Laminating Solutions Group comments: “Prior to the time that GBC Scuff-Free Matte Film came to market printers had to use plastic wrappings to preserve their publications from scratching during shipping. With the GBC Scuff-Free Matte Film this is not an issue anymore. The Scuff-Free film is three times more durable compared to other untreated matte laminate films, and the scratches and scuffing have virtually disappeared. It is of great value to them and priced exactly right in line with other laminating solutions. In addition customers don’t have to shrink-wrap every book they produce which is another great advantage.”
Expanded design opportunities with fewer returns and higher margins
The GBC Scuff-Free Matte Film allows printers to print dark colors without fear of scuffing or marring, thus creating and maintaining a luxurious, high value appearance. And, because Scuff-Free accepts most UV spot coating, embossing and other finishing techniques, the design and print options are expanded considerably. Scuff-Free film is three times more scratch resistant than traditional matte polypropylene films, and is specifically designed to resist the harsh conditions book covers are subject to during manufacturing, shipping and displaying on book store shelves. It dramatically reduces returns to the publisher and, ultimately, results in increased sales with significantly higher margins for publishers, book printers and booksellers alike. Moreover, the GBC Scuff-Free Matte Film accepts both animal- and synthetic-based glues making it also ideal for the packaging industry.
