New Contract for UPM Blandin Sets Positive Course for the Future
Wednesday 02. July 2008 - UPM Blandin Paper, Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and Teamsters Union Local 346 have ratified a new four-year labor agreement following two weeks of negotiations.
“The new agreement helps position the mill very well for the future,” said General Manager Joe Maher. “We are pleased with the efforts of both negotiating teams and look forward to a productive four years ahead.”
The union membership voted 81 percent in favor of the contract which includes general wage increases and changes to the benefits package as well as some language changes.
The negotiating process was described by both parties as positive and productive. “It was clear at the table that the employees and company share the same goal-to have a strong and competitive mill operation,” said Patrick Radzak, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 346. “It was a very business-like negotiation that resulted in a fair economic package for the membership.”
The previous contract expired June 30. Teamsters Local 346 represents nearly 400 employees at UPM Blandin Paper.
