DTI Announces the Much-Anticipated Release of Version 7 for Advertising, Editorial and Web Publishing
Monday 23. June 2008 - DTI Solutions being installed in news organizations world-wide
Digital Technology International, the leading developer of solutions driving the future of the news media industry, recently announced the Version 7 release of its editorial, Web publishing and advertising systems. National and international news organizations that already use DTI solutions, as well as new DTI customers, are lining up for installation, eager to take advantage of the added features and functionality Version 7 provides. The publications already live on Version 7 include Delmenhorster Kreisblatt (Delmenhorst, Germany) the Gazette (Colorado Springs, Colo.), the Register-Guard (Eugene, Ore.), Tiroler Tageszeitung (Innsbruck, Austria), and the Herald-Leader (Lexington, Ky). In addition, DTI has delivered Version 7 to the Houston Chronicle, the Albany Times-Union, Hagadone Corp., and La Nacion (Buenos Aires, Argentina). New signings include Oberösterreichische Zeitung (Linz, Austria), The Deseret News Publishing Company (Salt Lake City), The Salt Lake Tribune, the Erie Times-News, the Washington Times and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Version 7 delivers a host of revolutionary browser-based tools that give newspapers the power to unify their print and Web applications. It takes advantage of trailblazing technology, including the complete Adobe CS3 suite, and fully supports the standardized use of Adobe XML. The new software is notable for its stability and for its increased, in-depth use of MediaPoolTM, DTI’s versatile total content management system. Featuring new object-oriented tools and taking more advantage of the powerful CachéTM architecture, Version 7 brings to bear the full power of a single database for publishing content to multiple channels. The result is flexibility and compatibility between all platforms.
“The Deseret News decided it was time to upgrade its editorial publishing system to something that would better meet the needs of our growing media operation,” said Brady Mortensen, editorial manager of publishing systems at the Deseret News in Salt Lake City. “We ultimately decided that DTI’s excellent combination of forward-thinking database design, design tools and media flexibility offered us the best chance at achieving our goals. As newspapers begin to transform from strictly ink-and-paper entities into news organizations with multiple publishing channels, we believe DTI’s Version 7 software suite will allow us to do just that.”
Version 7 gives newsrooms a new portal to the versatility that universal access to applications through the Web provides. It is the main hub of activity for news organizations, reducing costs, allowing greater flexibility and saving time. For example, eBudget, DTI’s remote budgeting tool, now offers an enhanced feature set?and in the Data Center, the XML text now helps show changes made to stories. It highlights notes, text deletions and insertions, and indicates combined stories, making remote reporting directly to the Web a workable reality. In addition, Version 7 automatically compresses InDesign documents before they move over the network, allowing newspapers the timesaving benefit of better transfer rates.
“Version 7 is the release platform for WebSpeedTM,” said Don Oldham, DTI CEO. “Version 7 is a revolutionary approach to publishing content to the Web. With an extremely rich feature set, release 7 gives the newsroom flexibility to retrieve content?text, images, video, links, repurposed elements, documents, and so forth?from a wide range of sources, edit and organize it with ease, and then publish it to a variety of publications online or in print.”
The Register-Guard, a DTI development partner, is already live on Version 7. The newspaper, known throughout the United States for being on the forefront of design, is now a 24/7 content operation through its use of WebSpeed. Thanks to Version 7, the Register-Guard publishes to the Web and then to print in a seamless workflow. Version 7 gives the Register-Guard even more leverage in today’s market, where content management, flexibility, and stability are core necessities for any news organization to remain competitive.
“DTI Version 7 totally rocks!” said Jim Godbold, Register Guard associate editor. “From the initial wordsmith process to Web publication, the seamless integration allows us to squeeze more creative minutes out of every hour, and it’s already making our newspaper better.”
“Tiroler installed Version 7 and implemented WebSpeed start to finish in only eight weeks,” said Patricio Hetfleisch, Tiroler Tageszeitung’s chief editor of Web and radio. “Tiroler was up and operational with not one, but two publications in a very short time. We now publish to the Web first, then to print. This project will result in a good, very competitive product, on the front and back ends.”
Version 7 is an exciting release for DTI and is a solid example of DTI’s direction and DTI’s commitment to its customers.
“Version 7 has a lot of under-the-hood benefits for our customers,” said Dan Paulus, DTI vice president of sales and marketing. “All of our customers want total integration? and they can have it with DTI solutions. Version 7 is a very stable release using the best tools. Adobe CS3 is a powerful asset. Designers will appreciate the flexibility in the tools now available to them.”
