Tuesday 10. June 2008 - Peruvian printer expands into B1

Biblos in Lima, Peru, has just purchased its third Rapida to power expansion into the medium-format market. The company, which was founded in 1989 by two brothers, Alfredo and Willy Yoshimoto, now employs 110 people. While its main products are commercials, it also prints a steadily increasing volume of high-quality books. It has even established its own book publishing house, Editoria Biblos, which is driving growth in book production. In October 2007 Biblos was the first Peruvian company to receive a Benny Award, for its title “Rio Amazonas”.

Biblos purchased its first Rapida, a four-colour 72, in 1997. This was later followed by a six-colour version of the same model. The features specified for the new Rapida 105, which will ship in July, include DensiTronic closed-loop densitometry, ACR video register control and fully automated plate changing. The press will be installed in August in a new printing plant which will furnish Biblos with the capacity it needs for future growth. One of the two Rapida 75 presses will also be relocated there, along with other equipment.
