The New York Times Names Michael Valentine Vice President, Human Resources

Tuesday 10. June 2008 - The New York Times announced today that Michael Valentine has been named vice president, human resources, effective June 30. Mr. Valentine will be responsible for all human resources functions for The Times and will report to Scott Heekin-Canedy, president and general manager, The New York Times.

“We are delighted that Mike is returning to The New York Times,” said Mr. Heekin-Canedy. “His extensive experience in human resources, talent management and employee relations, here and at several other well-managed companies, makes him uniquely qualified for this position.”
Most recently Mr. Valentine served as vice president, human resources at Publishers Circulation Fulfillment, which he joined in 2001. From 2000 to 2001, Mr. Valentine was director of human resources/operations for The New York Times, managing all human resources activities at the newspaper’s two New York area printing plants. Before that, Mr. Valentine was international division human resources director for Eaton Corp. from 1998 to 2000, and held several positions with increasing responsibility at Allied Signal from 1995 to 1998, leaving as director, human resources/labor relations. Earlier in his career Mr. Valentine worked for Nabisco Brands, Johnson & Johnson and PepsiCo. and was a surface warfare officer for the United States Navy.
Mr. Valentine received a B.A. degree from The Citadel in 1982, a J.D. degree from Temple University School of Law in 1994 and completed the Human Resources Executive Program at the University of Michigan in 1996.
