DLS pioneer Bauer Druck to install 3rd Daetwyler LASERSTAR at Cologne facility

Sunday 08. June 2008 - Bleienbach, Switzerland. Bauer Druck Cologne (BDK), a pioneering user of the Direct Laser System (DLS) from MDC Max Daetwyler AG decides to invest into a third LASERSTAR for its Cologne facility.

As one of the first LASERSTAR users BDK started to use the zinc DLS technology from
Daetwyler in 1997. Due to the advantages of this highly stable and efficient rotogravure
cylinder engraving system and its high customer acceptance, BDK installed a second
LASERSTAR in 2004.

To further increase capacity and to serve the growing Eastern European markets, Bauer
opened the most advanced rotogravure cylinder-making plant in Nowogrodziec, Poland, in 2006, exclusively using the Daetwyler zinc LASERSTAR. Due to strong growth Bauer Poland already installed a 3rd LASERSTAR system at this facility in 2007.

With the current trend towards shorter press runs it has become imperative to have the fastest and most flexible rotogravure cylinder production process, which is the DLS system from Daetwyler, available. Besides superior process speed, compared to that known from electromechanical engraving, DLS-engraved cylinders offer print products of higher quality with no ribbon differences and excellent repeatability. Cylinders have also shown further reduced paper waste and provide ink savings of up to 15 per cent on the commonly used substrates in illustration printing.

With the latest addition of yet another LASERSTAR, Bauer Druck is the world’s leading user of the zinc DLS system in illustration rotogravure printing. The entire cylinder production at Bauer Druck is exclusively done with zinc DLS.
