Quad/Graphics, based in Pewaukee, Wis., purchased nine thermal computer to plate (CTP) devices from Kodak, including seven KODAK MAGNUS VLF QUANTUM Platesetters and two KODAK MAGNUS 800 QUANTUM Platesetters. The platesetters, along with the KODAK PRINERGY EVO Workflow System, will be installed in multiple Quad/Graphics locations across the United States. In addition, Quad/Graphics extended its contract with Kodak for thermal plates for multiple years in both the United States and Poland.
“Quad/Graphics is a recognized leader in the industry, and their selection of our equipment is gratifying,” said Kevin Joyce, Chief Marketing Officer, Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group. “We continue to focus on developing products that offer enhanced performance and efficiency to meet the increasingly complex needs of today’s successful print service providers. By offering a robust portfolio of integrated solutions, we are providing our customers with everything they need to strengthen and grow their businesses.”
With more than 12,000 employees and $2 billion in annual sales, Quad/Graphics is the world’s largest privately held print service provider. The company offers its clients services ranging from front end design and photography through digital imaging, printing, finishing, mailing/distribution, and data driven marketing solutions such as data optimization and analytics.
Each platesetter is fully automated and equipped with the multiple cassette unit (MCU) option. The full automation and high throughput capabilities of the new MAGNUS Platesetters enables Quad/Graphics to replace 16 of its existing 8 up and VLF platesetters with these nine new devices, which helps support Quad/Graphics’ commitment to lean manufacturing.
“The performance of the MAGNUS devices is helping us to do more work with fewer machines,” noted Jim Mercier, Director of Digital Imaging at Quad/Graphics. “Any time we can reduce the inventory of equipment on the floor, it’s a benefit to us, our customers, and the environment. Lean manufacturing is a key component of the Quad/Graphics philosophy, and we look forward to working with Kodak as we position our business for the future.”
