Kodak Sponsors Sheridan College “The Language of Illustration” Graduate Exhibition and Catalog
Thursday 05. June 2008 - Student artwork printed and distributed at drupa 2008
Kodak, in its commitment to the advancement of visual communications, recently sponsored “The Language of Illustration,” a graduate exhibition and catalog produced by Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Toronto. Designed to promote the work of graduate students in the Illustration program, the catalog was printed using a variety of KODAK Products.
Recognizing that illustration is at the point of visual communications where creativity and commerce intersect, Kodaks Graphic Communications Group (GCG) works to support the next generation of illustrators through its sponsorship of projects such as this one. In addition to financial and technical support, Kodaks Graphic Communications Group also is licensing some of the students work to produce a series of posters that will be distributed at drupa.
Leveraging workflow, prepress, and printing solutions from Kodak, the posters will be printed daily and available at the Kodak booth. Some of the products involved in prepress include the KODAK INSITE Prepress Portal System, KODAK MATCHPRINT Virtual Proofing Option, KODAK PRINERGY Workflow System, KODAK STACCATO CX Screening, KODAK MAGNUS QUANTUM Platesetter, and KODAK ELECTRA EXCEL HRL Thermal Plates.
For the posters printed digitally, products used in the process include KODAK NEXPRESS V Front End, KODAK NEXPRESS S3000 and S2500 Digital Production Color Presses with Fifth Imaging Unit, KODAK NEXPRESS M700 Digital Color Press, and a KODAK DIGIMASTER EX150 Digital Production System, as well as the KODAK NEXPRESS Glossing Unit to produce the high gloss surface.
“The illustration course is very interesting to us because these students are using their creativity and applying it to commercial applications,” noted Jon Bracken, Vice President, Marketing and Channels, Enterprise Solutions, GCG. “The quality of work is truly spectacular, and we are proud to be able to support the course and the students in this way. This collaborative effort sends a clear message that creativity combined with Offset Class Imaging yields outstanding results. Print is powerful.”
The Illustration Degree program at Sheridan is organized around the concept that commercial illustration typically supports words or a product or service and is used in a wide range of mediafrom print, books, posters, packaging and signage to graphic images on television, and most recently Web pages and multimedia. This program helps students build a strong portfolio of work and prepare for a career in the field.
Donna Braggins, a Professor for Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning and a nationally recognized art director and design leader, said, “Our graduate illustration curriculum gives students the foundation they need to make their own impact on the visual communications industry. With the support of key industry suppliers such as Kodak, we are able to enhance the educational experience and expose our students to the latest technologies in the field.”
