Mohawk Fine Papers becomes Member of FSC International’s Economic Chamber North

Thursday 29. May 2008 - U.S. based Mohawk Fine Papers Inc. [Drupa booth 71C51] is now a member of the Economic Chamber North in FSC International (FSC A.C.). FSC relies on the active participation of its members in the development of forest certification standards and in the support of local FSC initiatives.

By becoming a member, Mohawk is demonstrating its commitment to promote responsible management of the world’s forests as well as its commitment to FSC and its principles. Joe O’Connor, Mohawk’s Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, and Mohawk’s Economic Chamber representative, says, “Mohawk is seriously committed to the advance of sustainable efforts both within and outside our company walls. Participating with FSC at this level enables Mohawk to deepen its active support to promote responsible management of our world’s forests.”

The FSC organization consists of three international chambers: Economic, Social and Environmental. Members participate in the General Assembly, the highest decision-making component of the FSC, where they take part in the process of standard setting, election of the Board of Directors, and voting on motions to determine the direction of FSC activities in the coming years.

“FSC welcomes Mohawk’s decision to increase its commitment beyond being FSC certified and become a member of the FSC. Mohawk now officially joins a group of leaders in environmental and social businesses who jointly, with social and environmental organizations, actively shape the future of the FSC,” said Liza Murphy, Managing Director FSC Global Development.

FSC International currently has members in 45 countries from Canada, Germany, Brazil and Japan to Kenya, Madagascar and Australia. Mohawk joins the U.S. Chamber with other members such as Home Depot, Greenpeace USA and the Institute for Sustainable Forestry.
