HP Scitex Technology Allows Bluetree Design to Capitalise Upon its Digital Opportunity

Bluetree Design & Print Ltd’s HP Scitex XP2700

Tuesday 20. May 2008 - HP today announced that Bluetree Design & Print Ltd has installed an HP Scitex XP2700 Printer to maximise productivity without compromising print quality.

Bluetree Design was established as a lithographic screen printer; however, in recent years, the digital branch of the company has rapidly grown and now accounts for 25 percent of the company’s business. The company, based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, specialises in the production of banners, posters, point of sale displays, point of purchase items, vehicle livery wraps and other promotional items for its customers, which include major high street retailers and financial institutions.

The HP Scitex XP2700 super-wide format digital printer can produce the highest quality collateral and utilises HP Scitex UV curable ink to deliver vibrant colours, high colour consistency and a wide colour gamut.

It is a highly versatile printer and offers users the option of switching between four and eight-colour printing for maximum productivity and cost effective printing. This roll-to-roll printer, with multi-roll option, has the ability to print on a wide range of flexible or rigid substrates including uncoated PVC, polyethylene, mesh, vinyl, Tyvek and Yupo.

“We have experienced a massive increase in demand for our digital services in recent years,” said Bryan Shirley, managing director, Bluetree Design and Print Ltd. “Buying this printer has allowed us to maximise productivity, print on a much greater variety of substrates and produce a wider range of applications. We felt that the HP Scitex XP2700 was the only press available on the market that could deliver this and continue to help us meet the changing needs of our customers.”

Reaching high speeds of up to 110m2/hr, the HP Scitex XP2700 can produce collateral quickly allowing Bluetree Design to fulfil its customers’ orders within the shortest possible time.

Bluetree Design’s HP Scitex XP2700 features the optional Multi-roll Printing Kit to maximise productivity and increase the printer’s capacity. The printing kit uses a split input shaft that facilitates simultaneous printing on two different rolls, up to 1.6m wide. The printer features different motors for each roll ensuring that the roll is driven independently with its own print queue.

“The Multi-roll Printing Kit was a huge influence in our decision to buy the press,” said Shirley. “We can print two jobs at the same time, using different diameter substrate rolls if necessary. This has allowed us to shorten fulfillment times significantly and increase our flexibility, ensuring that we can offer our customers a digital printing service that is capable of meeting and exceeding their requirements.”
