Winchester firm expands plant to make way for more colour capacity
Monday 19. May 2008 - Culverlands will complete a 2,000 sq ft extension during May and this week installs a new Speedmaster SM 74-5+L press, enabling it to return to 12 hour day shifts.
It is a year since the company decided to sell off its two-colour MO as more and more work demanded full colour production. Retaining an SM 74-5 and two B3 Speedmaster presses it had to add a night shift to cope with the increasing demand for quality, fast turnround print from Hampshire and the south coast region.
Last week operators came off night shift and the company prepared for the installation of its new press, the first with a coating facility.
“Coating will increase our turnround speeds as lead times are continuing to fall and that trend is on-going,” says managing director Stephen Edwards. “It also gives us another added value service to offer our customers needing to give work an aesthetic lift.”
The “no quibbles” company is a Heidelberg presses fan because “the operators are familiar with the technology, they are well built machines with good productivity”.
The new press will be housed in the almost completed extension, which has brought the factory size to 9,000 sq ft and alleviated pressure on both production and office space.
The company has a Tharstern MIS system and is JDF linked in the prepress, press and MIS triangle. It finds the data collection and transfer a real asset. The company has up to date prepress and finishing facilities so believes it is now bottleneck free and that customers will get the response and pricing they require along with a quality finish.
