Focus on Drupa 2008

The latest issue of Koenig & Bauer’s 56-page corporate magazine, KBA Report, focuses on Drupa 2008 and the innovations KBA will be exhibiting, some of which were unveiled at a pre-Drupa open house in Radebeul that drew an awesome 1,600 participants.

Topics include closed-loop quality management, DriveTronic dedicated drives for sheetfed and web presses, 4 over 4 in large-format book and commercial printing – which KBA will be the only manufacturer to demonstrate at the show – and KBA Complete, a new consultancy established in association with Hiflex to support digital workflow and process standardisation, e-business, warehouse optimisation and web-to-print.

Another hot topic, both in KBA Report and on the KBA stand, is conservation, to which a special supplement is dedicated. The acknowledged technology leader in waterless and alcohol-free printing for sheetfed and web, KBA has long since achieved eco-accreditation for its entire Rapida sheetfed range and processes, and will demonstrate its green credentials at Drupa in association with ClimatePartner and others. All the KBA presses running at the show – even the large-format perfectors and Rapida 162 UV press for top-quality packaging – will be alcohol-free.
An article comparing compact four-high towers and conventional satellite presses provides fresh food for thought in this hoary debate. There are also technical articles, user reports and interviews from all over the world on topics ranging from the production of plant tags on a Genius 52 UV and green web-to-print business models with the 74 Karat to variable-format V5 folders on Compacta presses, metal decorating and packaging printing.
In the editorial KBA and Drupa president Albrecht Bolza-Schünemann looks back on his 36 years of experience with this mammoth show and the changes that have taken place in the print media industry. He calls on everyone involved to enhance print’s unique visual and haptic impact and to engage print buyers more intensely in the production chain.
