New Efficient Static Separator for Thin, Light Materials

Wednesday 14. May 2008 - In the paper and plastic industries process cut-offs and edge trim are often removed by pneumatic conveying systems.

After the conveying, the material will be separated from the conveying air e.g. by rotary valves and other devices requiring energy, maintenance and regular replacement of wearing parts.

Static separators, which are economical to run, can also do the separation, but on the other hand these may cause functional problems – e.g. clogging of the screen, which is part of the system.

Kongskilde has now developed a new efficient static separator for edge trim and die cut skeletons from thin, light plastic materials. By mounting a self-adjusting bottom plate in the separation chamber, the high speed of the material is maintained under the screen. This prevents turbulence, which would stop the material stream from being discharged continually.

The bottom plate is balanced by an adjustable weight, and thereby a suitable opening and air speed are maintained by varying pressures. An adjustable stopping device can furthermore limit the rate of closing.

The screen in the separator will wear with due time. However, it is easy to replace without having to disassemble the separator resulting in minimal production down time.

Kongskilde’s new static separator is an economical and efficient solution for separating difficult materials at the discharge of pneumatic conveying systems
