Tuesday 06. May 2008 - Pharmaceutical and Medical Packaging Conference, Copenhagen

Specialist talk and exhibition of glass and plastic products

This year again the Gerresheimer Group is actively involved in the Pharmaceutical and Medical Packaging Confe¬rence, which is being held in Copenhagen on 6 and 7 May 2008. In its display (Stand 14/15) Gerres¬heimer’s Tubular Glass and Plastic Systems Divisions jointly present the highlights of innovation in the field of drug delivery. In addition, its subsidiary Gerres¬heimer Vaerloese which is based in the host country is organising the programme of talks.

The annual conference in the Danish capital ranks among the most important specialist events of its kind in the Scandinavian region. Gerresheimer has been represented here for many years: the Group enjoys worldwide regard as one of the most multi-facetted specialists for pharmaceutical packaging and application systems – and one of the most innovative across the entire board of glass and plastic. “We are coming to Copenhagen with the nice feeling that we can offer need-oriented progress to the pharma and life-science industry across a uniquely wide spectrum”, says Burkhard Lingenberg, Director of Marketing and Communication for the Gerresheimer Group.

In the field of glass and related products, the range leaves nothing to be desired. Special focus here is naturally on injections – and above all the latest generation of sterile Ready-to-Fill (RTF) syringe systems and an even more highly perfected complementary product package for maximum safety and convenience in practical use. Not only for syringes but also for cartridges, ampoules and vials Gerresheimer presents its brand-new technologies for product labelling by laser technology and for multicolour printing. With regard to sensitive biopharmaceutics the Group also provides information about special processes for inner siliconisation.

In the field of plastics, a particularly interesting segment is first of all that of medical systems, which concentrates fully on individual project business. Special attention is also focussed on newly developed inhalers covering the widest possible range of categories and on innovative system products for the field of diabetes – thanks to synergy between glass and plastic Gerresheimer is now actually able to produce insulin pens systems completely in house. The Group is also a complete supplier for standardised plastic system packaging. It is for example exhibiting new PET products which have recently been added to the product range for liquid and solid medicines. Last year international attention was already attracted by another innovation under the Gerresheimer trademark, providing ample material for an informative specialist talk in Copenhagen: a completely new type of desiccant closure.

“Safeguarding pharmaceutical products via integrated desiccant solutions” is the subject. Gustav Levander from Gerresheimer Vaerloese will provide facts about this from a first-hand source, since the Danish plastic competence centre – as the first manufacturer in the world – also produces moisture-absorbing packaging completely in house – including the desiccant elements which are integrated in the closure – thus avoiding circuitous supply routes.
