Ciba is presenting a new range of pearlescent effects at interpack 2008, which takes place in Düsseldorf from April 24-30 (stand E18 in Hall 10). With their anti-yellowing properties, Ciba XYMARA XPS pearlescent effects enhance the appearance and prolong the life of plastic objects. XYMARA XPS are suitable for a broad range of goods, including cosmetics bottles, jars, containers and many other functional and decorative items. The first two products in the range are Ciba XYMARA Silver Pearl XPS19, which gives a white satin luster, and Ciba XYMARA Silver Pearl XPS23, which combines the satin sheen with a discreet glitter. XYMARA XPS products can be used together with other effects and colors to produce individual and exclusive designs.
“Conventional mica-based pearl pigments tend to cause yellowing of plastic following exposure to light,” said Nicole End, Marketing Manager for Consumer Goods in Cibas Business Line Plastics. “Ciba has now developed a surface treatment that stabilizes pearlescent pigments and inhibits yellowing, adding to the appeal of numerous items and extending their lifetime.”
Decorative pearlescent effect pigments can reproduce the special luster and color of natural pearls and also of metal on plastics. Varying particle sizes enable different application requirements to be met: small particles give a gentle, silk-like sheen, while large particles impart a stronger, glitter effect. Cibas range of pearlescent effects includes XYMARA Silver Pearl, Gold Pearl, Dual Pearl, Bronze Pearl and XYMARA Nordic.
Ciba develops, produces and markets a wide range of XYMARA effect pigments for a variety of plastics applications. The effects can be used together with transparent as well as opaque pigments to create individual new styles and designs.
