Rako Etiketten Achieves Success As Packaging Category Award Winner In Fespa Digital Print Awards 2008
Tuesday 29. April 2008 - Witzhave-based label production experts Rako Etiketten scooped the coveted accolade of Packaging Category winner at the recent FESPA Digital Print Awards 2008, supported by HP.
One of two German companies to enjoy success as Category winners at the prestigious awards ceremony, Rako Etiketten were singled out for their work on the launch of the Schwarzkopf & Henkel got2b haircare products. A challenging brief to print onto a denim-look textile label substrate led Rako down the digital production route with their HP Indigo label press, with outstanding and cost-effective results.
Although having previously achieved success with printing onto fleece fabric, Schwarzkopf & Henkels request for a textile adhesive label presented a new challenge for the Rako team. In order to overcome registration problems and issues with the denims absorbent surface, Rako used its HP Indigo Digital Offset Printer (HP indigo press ws4500) to deliver the perfect registration, consistent printing and desired colour adhesion.
“We printed more than 30 different colour variations in order to find an appropriate and suitable design”, explains Rakos Ralph Koopmann. “By opting to use digital printing for the invariably costly adhesive laminate, we also enjoyed significant cost-efficiencies as a result of low waste-paper rates. Having been involved in the industrial production of adhesive denim labels for over a year, the excellent results achieved have deemed this project a complete success.”
Koopmann celebrated with other Category Winners at an exclusive dinner event in Geneva on 31st March, where he received his prize certificate from HPs Lucien Moons and FESPA board member Lascelle Barrow.
Commenting on Rakos success in the competition, which invites entries from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Hellmuth Frey, past FESPA President, FESPA board member and representative of FESPAs German member association, Bundesverband Druck und Medien (bvdm), said:
“The ever-increasing popularity of the Packaging Category continues to attract high numbers of entrants to the Digital Print Awards competition and once again, our judging panel had a difficult task of selecting an eventual winner from a number of strong contenders. Rako Etikettens entry was subsequently chosen because it perfectly exemplifies the wondrous results achievable when digital technology is fused with creative inspiration and innovative thinking.
“I hope that the Rakos success in this years competition will inspire other packaging companies to enter their work in the FESPA Digital Print Awards 2009, and to take advantage of this unique opportunity to showcase their most outstanding work to an international audience.”
