Domino To Launch Next Generation Laser Coding At interpack 2008
Monday 28. April 2008 - At interpack 2008, Domino is launching the next generation of its acclaimed line-up of laser coding systems, the D-Series plus, a highly versatile range of industrial scribing lasers designed to provide high quality codes across a wide range of production speeds.
Boasting a choice of 10-, 30- and 55-watt lasers, the D-Series plus builds on the Domino reputation for quality and reliability, with the addition of a new modular construction, new browser-based control software and Ethernet interface to standardise connectivity with host machines, simplify integration and maximise overall equipment effectiveness.
Typically used for high-end coding requirements in the food, beverage, tobacco, pharma and cosmetics sectors, Domino lasers have the widest mark window and duty cycle performance in their class, providing numerous options for complex code, real time data, and track & trace applications.
Key to the appeal of the new Domino D-Series plus is its flexibility of application, afforded by the modular nature of its design, which allows flexible laser head orientations for easy integration in multiple directions. The controller box and Ethernet web server are contained within a single housing, which is compatible with the standard 19-inch rack systems commonly found in industrial settings and more particularly within the control cabinet of packaging machines. Ethernet connectivity means that the user interface can be integrated via the main control panel of the host machine for OEM installations or for retrofits, an additional Domino colour touchscreen panel can be supplied. Either way, the new design makes for a more streamlined installation, with clear access points for production and technical operations respectively.
The control software – version III of Dominos proven Dynamark package – offers a familiar browser-type environment for operators with menu guidance and clear graphics throughout. In terms of robustness, all data is now stored within compact flash memory, thereby eliminating the need for moving components such as hard drives and for an uninterrupted power supply, which again reduces the complexity of installation.
Ideal for marking on to a variety of substrates including paper, cartons, plastics and glass, the D-Series plus offers the flexibility to print an unlimited number of lines of text in any orientation. It is designed to print high quality codes across a wide range of production speeds up to 400m/min, in a variety of fonts from 0.5mm to 180mm high.
Thorsten Foecking, Product Director for Dominos laser product range, says, “The D-series plus range will improve overall equipment effectiveness for our customers by allowing maximum uptime. The intuitive set-up is designed to reduce operator errors, leading to minimum changeover times.”
The D-Series plus range also offers the advantage of a direct interface to the Domino DPX fume extraction system for automatic removal of fumes and particles, thereby ensuring consistent code quality and reduced rejects, as well as providing a clean environment for personnel in the vicinity.
This is the latest in a series of launches for the Domino plus progamme, an iniative that is being rolled out across Domino’s coding & marking portfolio. The objective of the plus programme is to deliver solutions aimed at improving the overall effectiveness of manufacturing operations, through increased productivity, flexibility and quality.
Domino’s latest generation plus range of products delivers an advanced product portfolio packed with feature-rich enhancements to increase production efficiencies and output. Features include enhanced connectivity, remote diagnostic solutions and open system platforms, all focused on delivering high levels of print quality output and high levels of equipment effectiveness, cost predictability and overall performance.
Thorsten Foecking adds that the introduction of the D-Series plus is evidence of Dominos extensive experience in production environments and its understanding of the pressures its customers face in delivering the highest levels of productivity and quality. “Ease of integration, operation and reliability are fundamental criteria, to which we have responded in full with the D-Series plus,” he says.
The D-Series plus range will be available from June 2008.
