Domino’s Linerless M-Series Model Set To Create A Stir At Interpack 2008

M-Series Linerless Label Roll

Friday 25. April 2008 - Domino’s M-Series range of print and apply labellers is set to create a stir with the launch at Interpack of a linerless model - the M500 - that responds to waste reduction, environmental issues and productivity improvement targets in equal measure.

The elimination of backing for the self-adhesive labels means that waste is radically reduced and, with up to 100% more label material per roll than standard, the labeller can run for twice as long between roll changes, driving increased productivity. Further waste reduction is achieved by the eradication of the matrix around each label.

Increased flexibility is ensured by the capability of the M-Series Linerless to cut labels to the required size, which eliminates the need for changeover between products and therefore increases productivity. An added benefit of producing different sized labels from the same roll is that fewer variants in roll size are required, creating a significant overall reduction in costs.

The contribution to supply chain efficiency goes much further: Domino has partnered with materials suppliers to develop specialised substrates that are compatible with case material from a recycling perspective. Using paper labels on cardboard and plastic labels on shrink-wrap means that contamination of reclaimed materials is avoided without any prior sorting required.

Launched last year, Domino’s M-Series range of print and apply technologies enables the company to provide a complete range of flexible end-to-end coding solutions, including the full compliment of primary, secondary and pallet coding offerings. It comprises a fully modular system consisting of printers, applicators and accessories, which provide label printing and application flexibility, capable of meeting the wide ranging requirements of today’s manufacturers. Delivering accurate information and label placement without compromising production line speeds, the M-Series range ensures maximum productivity, flexibility and therefore profitability.

As with all products in the range, Domino’s M-Series Linerless includes thermal transfer and direct thermal label printers, available in left and right hand versions. These combine with a range of blow, tamp, tamp and blow and wipe label applicators for optimal performance and operation.

Offering high quality printing of GS1 compliant bar codes, text and graphics to ensure supply chain compliance, the M-Series Linerless can be seamlessly integrated into existing production lines.

It includes a high performance intuitive printer control unit with informative operator interface with both USB and RS232 connections as standard and with optional Ethernet, and is complemented by a range of accessories such as handheld terminals, fully adjustable stands, beacons and bar code validation scanners.

Mike Hurst, Product Director for Outer Case Coding at Domino Printing Sciences, explains that this is a new approach to linerless print and apply, which is prompting significant interest, particularly from multinational corporations where environmental impact is a key issue and label stock is a commodity purchase. “Reducing waste is a responsibility we all share but the more packaging lines a company has, the greater the problem of waste handling becomes,” he says. “Because of the scale of their operations, multinationals see a number of potential benefits afforded by this technology, including the opportunity to reduce warehousing volumes through the elimination of backing material, longer production runs with shorter changeover times and significantly lower costs for waste handling and reclamation.”
