DANIEL S. FULTON NAMED WEYERHAEUSER PRESIDENT AND CEO; MARK A. EMMERT, UW PRESIDENT, JOINS BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Monday 21. April 2008 - Weyerhaeuser Company (NYSE: WY) today announced that the board of directors has elected Daniel S. Fulton, 59, president and chief executive officer and a member of the board effective immediately. Fulton has served as president since Jan. 1.
Fulton assumes the role of CEO from Steven R. Rogel, 65, who remains chairman in a non?executive role.
Weyerhaeuser also announced that Mark A. Emmert, president of the University of Washington, would join the companys board of directors effective June 1.
“Steve Rogel has guided Weyerhaeuser through a period of unprecedented change with integrity, vision and dedication,” said Charles R. Williamson, lead director on Weyerhaeusers board. “As we chart our course forward at this important juncture in the companys history, it is critical for us to have Steve guiding the continuing implementation of our long-term strategy. The board looks forward to ongoing benefit from his business savvy, wisdom and insight.
“Were also fortunate to have a leader of the caliber of Dan Fulton assume the additional role of CEO,” Williamson said. “Dans understanding of the company and the industry ensures that we will continue to implement the strategies we have put in place to guide Weyerhaeuser into its second century. Together with Mark Emmert, our new director, Dan will work closely with Steve and the board as we move forward with our strategies to enhance shareholder value.”
About Daniel S. Fulton
Daniel S. Fulton has been president of Weyerhaeuser Company since Jan. 1, 2008. Prior to assuming that role, he served as president and chief executive officer of Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Company, a subsidiary of the company, since 2001. Fulton was president and chief executive officer of Weyerhaeuser Realty Investors, Inc., a subsidiary of the company, from 1998 to 2000; its chief operating officer from 1996 to 1997; and its chief investment officer from 1994 to 1995. He joined Weyerhaeuser in 1975 and has held various management and investment positions with the company and its subsidiaries.
Fulton graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Miami University (Ohio) in 1970. He received a Master of Business Administration degree in finance from the University of Washington in 1976, and he completed the Stanford University Executive Program in 2001.
About Steven R. Rogel
Steven R. Rogel was elected Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Weyerhaeuser Company on April 20, 1999. Prior to assuming the title of chairman, Rogel served as president and chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors since Dec. 1, 1997.
In 1966, he began his career with St. Regis Paper Company, where he worked until 1970. From 1970 to 1972, he was assistant manager at St. Anne-Nackawic Pulp and Paper in Nackawic, N.B., Canada. He joined Willamette in 1972 as technical director at the company’s operations in Albany, Ore. He was named president and chief executive officer of Willamette in 1995, and served in that position until joining Weyerhaeuser Company in December 1997.
Rogel received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering in 1965 from the University of Washington in Seattle. He completed the executive education programs at Dartmouth College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1982 and 1989, respectively.
About Mark A. Emmert
Mark A. Emmert became the 30th president of the University of Washington, his alma mater, in June 2004. Prior to assuming the presidency at the University of Washington, he was chancellor at Louisiana State University. He also served as chancellor of the University of Connecticut and held administrative and academic positions at the University of Colorado and Montana State University. He was a J. W. Fulbright Administrative Fellow in Germany and an American Council on Education Fellow.
Emmert graduated from the UW in 1975 with a degree in political science. He received his masters degree in 1976 and his doctorate in 1983, both in public administration from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University. Emmert also serves on the board of Expeditors International of Washington, Inc.
