Dutch Printer Takes Top Category Award In FESPA Digital Print Awards 2008
Thursday 17. April 2008 - Benelux print service providers strongly represented among commendations
Dutch digital print service provider PK Media BV reaped the Interior Category Award in the FESPA Digital Print Awards 2008, supported by HP.
The Bergschenhoek-based printer scooped the coveted prize for its entry
Philippe Starck Chairs. It entailed using creative vinyl on the back of a Philippe Starck chair and needed to be easily produced and changed. PK Media made mirrored prints on transparent vinyl, which were placed on the back of the chairs. Each print was printed on the adhesive side, before being laminated to a regular white vinyl in order to achieve the desired white back and ensure protection and durability during customer use. Customer Sculp Standbouw was so thrilled with the chairs that they have now commissioned PK Media to produce stools for other NTS clothing stores.
“The FESPA Digital Awards are a great vehicle for increasing the awareness of ones capabilities to the industry”, says Sebastian Schuring, Production Manager of PK Media. “Its always nice to be rewarded for the hard work and effort that goes into projects of this kind and achieving success is a good way of setting – and even raising – the standard of professionalism that we deliver.”
Schuring celebrated with other Category Winners at an exclusive dinner event in Geneva on 31st March, where he received his prize certificate from FESPA board member Christian Duyckaerts.
Other Benelux printers whose work was singled out from over 300 entries for commendation by the jury were:
Interstickers (Belgium) for their work on the Rombouts vehicle wraps.
NGIN (Belgium) received two commendations, one for their work in wrapping the tail of a F16 fighter plane, and the other for printing the decorative displays in a childrens shoe store.
Ads & Co (Belgium), in helping to creatively display their clients mission statement on company vehicles.
Blomsma Print & Sign (Netherlands,) for printing the columns that was used as advertising for a local college in the middle of a roundabout in the City Zoetemeer.
Commenting on the success of print service providers from the Benelux region in the competition, which invites entries from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, FESPAs Christian Duyckaerts says:
“This is a fantastic achievement for Benelux print service providers. It demonstrates that we really can push the boundaries of creativity and show our customers what digital printing can do for them. PK media used their technological know-how and expertise to offer a truly innovative solution for customer Sculp Standbouw. More and more, Benelux digital printing companies are becoming very successful by exploring new areas in architecture and design. This application will no doubt inspire many designers and manufacturers to produce exciting and creative furniture using digital printing.”
