Kodak Showcases Anticounterfeiting Solutions at Major European Intellectual Property Rights Forum
Monday 14. April 2008 - Kodaks Security Solutions Group will showcase its range of brand protection and authentication solutions at the upcoming European Intellectual Property Rights Forum, to be held in Paris, France from 15-16 April.
The Forum, now in its 13th year, is organised by the Union des Fabricants (Unifab) the French anticounterfeiting association. The prestigious line-up of speakers includes high-level representatives from Governments, the European Commission, and major brand owners including Rolex and Nike. Kodak is supporting the event together with several European affiliates: Florence-based anticounterfeiting consultancy Solos; Viennese security printer Securikett; assurance service industry leader TÜV Rheinland Group; and security and RFID technology company Gep Italia.
Kodaks Security Solutions group develops and markets a range of brand protection products and services, ranging from overt technologies such as variable data watermarking and microprinting to the ultra-covert KODAK TRACELESS System for Anticounterfeiting. The TRACELESS System is a forensically invisible authentication technology that deploys a combination of proprietary markers and handheld readers. It creates items with unique material properties that can only be detected using Kodaks reading technologies.
The TRACELESS System marker materials can be mixed with inks, toners, varnishes and other items for analog and digital printing, as well as paper pulp, plastics, powders, pigments, liquids and textiles. This system prevents counterfeiters from duplicating the products or their packaging. Kodak is already working with customers in a wide range of industries that are affected by counterfeiting, including pharmaceuticals, apparel, cosmetics, identification documents and premium wineries.
“The global counterfeiting epidemic is costing companies hundreds of billions of dollars every year, and putting the health and safety of innocent consumers at risk,” said Steve Powell, general manager of Kodaks Security Solutions Group. “Kodak is marshalling its considerable capabilities to develop countermeasures to help stem this plague. Here at the Forum, weve joined forces with other solution providers to send a collective message to counterfeiters and legitimate producers that we can and will fight back.”
KODAK Security Solutions brings together the resources of Kodaks vast intellectual property portfolio, along with expertise in material science, digital imaging, document imaging, and graphic communications to create a broad portfolio of products and technologies that protect against counterfeiting.
