Global Brand and Leader in Paper Industry Launches Product in the U.S.

Wednesday 09. April 2008 - Thailand-Based Company, Double A, Introduces Paper Made From Farmed Trees to U.S. Market

Double A, a paper and pulp company based in Thailand, today announced the introduction of their environmentally-friendly paper made from farmed trees into the U.S. market.

The Double A U.S. operation, headquartered in Los Angeles, plans to roll out its paper products across the country this year, beginning with a focus on the California market.

“As a company and brand that is currently available in more than 100 countries worldwide, we have looked forward to having Double A paper in the U.S. market for a long time,” said Thirawit Leetavorn, Senior Executive Vice President for Double A. “This is truly exciting for us and we would like to officially begin our U.S. relationship with a promise and a commitment to every customer to provide a paper product that is genuinely good for the environment while also high in quality.”

Made from farmed Eucalyptus trees grown throughout agricultural communities in Thailand, Double A’s pulp harvesting method significantly reduces environmental impacts while making a high-quality paper product.

Planted alongside existing rice paddies, corn and other crops that would otherwise be unused, the paper from farmed trees does not require land clearing or the destruction of forests, avoiding impact to the environment. Additionally, the trees significantly diminish harmful greenhouse gases by reducing more than two million tons of CO2 emissions each year.

The Double A business also serves as a major economic benefit for the citizens of Thailand. The farmed trees are harvested by more than 1.5 million local farmers who receive training and stability amongst Thailand’s agricultural crops that can cause seasonal labor migrations and income fluctuations.

Environmental Benefits

Double A uses pulp from farmed trees in Thailand, a sustainable and innovative harvesting method that reduces environmental impacts, such as:

— Oxygen and CO2 Emissions – Double A’s farmed trees release 1.6 million
tons of oxygen into the atmosphere and remove 2.4 million tons of CO2
emissions every year.
— Less Water – Double A uses 90 percent less water than the conventional
pulp and paper industry.
— Natural Electricity – The electricity for the Double A mills are
provided by biofuel derived from tree-waste and other by-products.
— Low Environmental Cost – The environmental costs of Double A’s paper
from farmed trees is $0.04 USD per ream compared to an average $0.24
USD per ream of paper products manufactured in the U.S.
— Proprietary Species – Double A uses a proprietary species of the
Eucalyptus tree that matures in three to five years and has been
researched for over 25 years to find the best species suited for the
naturally tropic climate of Thailand.
