MABEG / FAG: New Exhaustive Product Range of Print Quality Inspection and Enhancement Systems at DRUPA 2008
Monday 07. April 2008 - New opportunities to create added value for commercial printers, label printers, security printers, packaging printers and folding box manufacturers.
MABEG Maschinenbau (Mörfelden, Germany) and FAG (Lausanne, Switzerland), two closely affiliated companies, will demonstrate many new solutions for print inspection and the enhancement of entire printed sheets, single copies and small web products on their common booth at DRUPA 2008 (Hall 9/A21).
The basic concept is as follows: With precise register the print product passes an inspection and process table. Passing this table, various inspection- and enhancement processes can be carried out in one pass, depending upon the respective equipment chosen for this highly modular system.
1. Automatic Inspection, Sorting and Recording
– Image, Colour
Printed sheets or single copies are inspected for defects in the image (hickeys, streaks, scumming, smearing). Only one side or both sides of the product can be inspected, depending on the equipment. Imprints with invisible inks can also be inspected.
In addition to this camera based system, a new densitometric inline colour control system FAG SpectraScan will be available from now on.
Products found to be defective in the image, in substrate or in inking can be diverted to a separate delivery pile.
– Braille
“Typing errors” in Braille on boxes or labels may lead to fatal consequences. With the new FAG BrailleScan, that will be introduced to the international trade experts on DRUPA 2008, a device will be available that can read Braille up to a maximal size of 40 x 120 mm, translate it into normal writing and compare this writing to a text entered prior by the operator.
2. Modules for Enhancement
– Imprints
A high definition InkJet System is available for text printing, numbering, encoding etc. On the exhibition MABEG will demonstrate the versatile InkJet system Omega 36i from Atlantic Zeiser along with the latest environment-friendly LED based UV-dryer SmartCure36i.
Marking of carton boxes with for instance invisible security elements becomes more and more important (brand protection!).
On the MABEG sheet processor MSP the TWIN-ICI system is installed, printing an invisible fake protective image.
– Application of labels
A high speed label-applicator will be shown, self-adhesive labels, holograms, RFID-tags and others can be affixed. MABEG/FAG will demonstrate the highly sophisticate label-applicator PAGOmat.
3. Inspection and Enhancement Processors
There are three basic types of “Processors”, the mechanical platform of this modular and flexible system. With these three types of processors practically all requirements are covered:
– MABEG MSP for printed sheets
Entire printed sheets are transported over the inspection- and processing table of the MABEG Modular Sheet Processor MSP. This sheet processor consists of a feeder with pre piling facilities, the processing table, and one or optionally two deliveries. With an optional second delivery print products can be sorted and faulty products are delivered to the separate pile.
– FAG MBP for single copies or die cut blanks
Single copies or die cut blanks are handled and transported over the processing table of the FAG Modular Blanks Processor MBP. The MBP also consists of a feeder with pre-piling facilities, a process table and two deliveries for sorting and separating faulty products. Products up to a size of 40 x 50 mm can be handled.
– FAG MWP for web products
The FAG Modular Web Processor MWP consists of a reel stand, unwinding with web tension control, a process table and a winder. It can handle products with a web width of up to 300 mm.
