Monday 03. March 2008 - In order to increase the quality and speed of case label printing, world-renowned Scottish single malt whisky manufacturer, The Glenmorangie Company, has recently invested in two Domino M-Series print and apply labellers.

Glenmorangie has recently undergone major repositioning, presenting a contemporary and stylish new image to assist in further enhancing the brand’s status across the world. As part of this transformation Glenmorangie has integrated the M-Series printers into one of the company’s new production and bottling lines. The M-Series offers high quality printing of GS1-compliant bar codes and product information, which ensures supply chain compliance for Glenmorangie, at a throughput of 40 cases per minute.

Launched at the beginning of 2007 and proving extremely popular, the M-Series range of print & apply technologies was introduced to enable Domino to provide a complete range of flexible end-to-end coding solutions, including the full complement of primary, secondary and pallet coding offerings. It comprises a fully modular system consisting of printers, applicators and accessories, which provide Glenmorangie with label application flexibility. Delivering accurate information and label placement without compromising production line speeds, the M-Series range ensures maximum productivity, thereby contributing to profitability.

Already impressed by Domino’s global reputation and proven record for supplying quality systems for coding and marking, Glenmorangie chose to invest in the M-Series printers following a successful on line trial of the printing solution. Chas McEwan, Engineering Manager for The Glenmorangie Company says, “We have found the M-Series to be reliable, high speed and easily accessible for operation and maintenance.”

Designed to meet Domino’s commitment to supporting lean manufacturing processes and overall equipment effectiveness, the M-Series maximises production output with minimum disruption. Typical runs for Glenmorangie can be anything from 100 to 10,000 cases, with a turnaround time of around 20 minutes. The M-Series’ simple label selection ensures operator independence, whilst the combination of large label and ribbon capacity, optional sensors to alert operators when consumables are low, and straightforward label and ribbon paths, all allow for managed intervention, minimal downtime and therefore an enhanced and efficient production throughput.

Domino’s M-Series range includes a high performance intuitive printer control unit with informative operator interface featuring both USB and RS232 connections as standard and optional Ethernet. It is complemented by a range of accessories such as bar code verification scanners, which Glenmorangie uses to check each label and reject any which are not of the highest quality. Other accessories include handheld terminals, fully adjustable stands and beacons.

M-Series print & apply technologies include thermal transfer and direct thermal label printers, available in left and right hand versions. These combine with a range of blow, tamp, tamp and blow and wipe label applicators for optimal performance and operation.

“We have chosen to invest in Domino’s high speed print and apply machines in order to meet the demands of our customers for 100% accuracy on the quality of every case.” says Chas McEwan, “We have some exciting times ahead of us during which we will be concentrating on developing our current brands, as well as new innovations for the future. This could well lead to us requiring more production lines and we will definitely look to Domino as possible suppliers as we have been very satisfied with this first installation.”
