Newspaper publisher and media corporation Grupo Sinos has signed an order with Goss International for a Goss Community press after observing recent installations at printing houses in Panama and Venezuela. The investment in the new press with five four-high towers has been made to increase color capacity across all Grupo Sinos publications and titles printed for third parties – from newspapers with paginations as low as four pages up to 40 pages in full color, and from local titles to special sections of flagship title Jornal NH.

The new shaftless Community press has been selected with two SSC folders and one of the towers will be dedicated to UV printing to deliver greater production flexibility. In addition to publishing its own titles such as Jornal NH, Jornal VS, Diádio de Canoas and ABC Domingo, Grupo Sinos also prints for approximately 40 other local titles. The two folder configuration will allow the publisher greater flexibility including, in conjunction with the UV capability, printing both coldset newspaper products and high-quality semi-commercial products.

Continuous development of the Community press design and new features make today’s model a reliable and economic choice. Known worldwide as a productive, durable, flexible and operator-friendly press it is well suited for local newspaper and contract print production. The new Goss Community press will be supplied with zero-speed splicers and NP600 infeeds for each four-high tower, providing improved web guidance and tension resulting in a high quality end product.

Julio Gostisa, sales manager for Goss International in Latin America, notes, “As with all markets today there is a requirement in Brazil for more color and better quality. Not only will Grupo Sinos achieve increased capacity and enhanced quality with the new press, but they will benefit from production improvements too. The flexibility and ease-of-use of the Goss Community press is particularly valuable to this project because of the high volume of jobs they deliver on a daily basis.”

Gostisa adds, “Brazil continues to be a very important market for Goss International. With a trend for popular tabloids printed in full color, each major player in the market has been obligated to create a newspaper to compete. Grupo Sinos has always been one step ahead of the game, partly because the company retains its flexibility for customers. I am impressed with the passion each employee has shown towards the company and the project, it is sure to be a success.”

Founded in 1957 by two brothers Mario Alberto Gusmao and Paulo Sergio Gusmao, Grupo Sinos started as a newspaper publishing business. Today the company also owns several radio stations and provides internet services for the region.
