Print Library pioneers Hybrid screening in Ireland
Wednesday 06. February 2008 - Print Library has colour calibrated its two Speedmasters (an SM74-5 and SM52-4+L) and adopted Hybrid Screening by upgrading its MetaDimension prepress software just weeks ahead of moving to new premises which double its floor space.
“We wanted to raise the bar on quality and to be a pioneer in the adoption of hybrid screening in Ireland,” says Geoff Truesdale, joint managing director of Print Library. “We have done fingerprint tests with hybrid and we are very impressed with the results – and so are our customers.”
The company has been promoting its introduction of hybrid screening in laymens terms for its corporate customers but with enough depth to be of interest to designers and those of a more technical mindset.
Hybrid screening uses AM (amplitude-modulated) screening but dithers the dot (alters the dot size) to give finer reproduction detail. In other words both the size of dot and screen angle come into play to give exceptional tonal values.
Print Library required no change in their production process but are now able to produce all jobs at a screening value of 250lpi as opposed to the standard 175lpi.
“The results are brilliant and we aim to improve upon the high standard of print quality we have attained, when we move in six weeks to larger premises close by. These are 11,000 sq ft compared to the current 5,500sq ft. Business is good and we are in a great position for growth,” says Mr Truesdale.
