Pack Solutions is completely nuts
Wednesday 09. January 2008 - RPC Containers Blackburn has provided the striking jars for the relaunch of Sainsburys extensive range of nuts for the Christmas market, manufactured using 25% recycled PET (rPET).
Sainsburys has used jars from RPC for a number of years but decided to pack the 2007 range in a new design to refresh the brands on-shelf appeal. The fishbowl-shaped wide mouth container from RPC Blackburn, available in three jar sizes, was considered ideal for Sainsburys purposes.
Injection moulded in PET, the jars lightweight and easy handling properties maximise consumer convenience and the heat seal provides tamper-evidence and maintains product freshness.
An important consideration for Sainsburys this year has been to reduce the amount of plastic required by incorporating a proportion of post-consumer recycled content into the packaging. RPC Blackburn has therefore used 25% rPET in each jar size.
“Sainsburys is committed to minimising its impact on the environment, and with RPC Blackburns assistance we have saved nearly 16 tonnes of virgin plastic across the project,” comments Natalie McCreesh, Product Developer at Sainsburys.
While the 760 and 1340ml variants were already standard products in RPC Blackburns portfolio, the largest size – 1750ml – has been developed specifically to meet Sainsburys requirements.
The range of seven nut mixes this year includes a mulled wine fruit & nut mix, all packed in jars with distinctive coloured sleeves with matching caps.
“We are very pleased with the service we receive from RPC,” comments Natalie McCreesh. “This is a distinctive jar that, when combined with fantastic sleeve designs, is sure to expand on the existing popularity of our Christmas nut range.”
