Packaging
See me, feel me, touch me
Tuesday 19. September 2023 - KAPAG, together with its sister company Oppboga, welcomes visitors to its stands at London Packaging Week (booth H36) this autumn. The event brings together premium packaging companies who showcase innovative materials to brand owners.
Visitors to the events can see, feel and touch the many natural paperboards the sister companies have on offer.
Packaging plays an important role when it comes to protecting valuable goods, but in a busy retail environment it is also the perfect medium for selling these goods to the consumer.
“In todays fast-paced digital age, consumers long for all things tangible”, says Mr. Alexander Meyer, managing owner of KAPAG. “Our paperboards invite them to touch the packaging as well as admire the true craftmanship (design, print, embossing, converting) that went into making such attractive packaging”.
KAPAG has recently launched FibreForm Brown Duo, a natural brown paperboard that complements its best-selling FibreForm White Duo, reflecting the growing trend for the use of sustainable materials in premium packaging for luxury goods.
Thanks to its high tearing resistance and tensile stretch, this 3D paperboard lends itself to the extremely deep embossing that is so attractive to consumers. There is no other packaging material that makes such an impression on retail shelves. This food-approved and FSC-certified board is made from 100% cellulose fibres. On request, it can also be produced with a certain percentage of recycled fibres. KAPAGs FibreForm paperboards complete the FibreForm paper range of Billerud.
Oppboga Bruk, too, has tactile paperboards to showcase. Andrew Robinson, managing director, describes Oppbogas latest advances: “We have recently developed uncoated boards that satisfy the markets increasing demand for natural materials.”
Oppboga Robust Kraft is a solid unbleached sulphate board with a natural brown on one or both sides. It has a high tear strength that keeps products and brands safe. It runs extremely well on automated packing lines and is suited for multipacks and heavy carton, be it for luxury beverages, gift sets or electronics. On the other side of the colour spectrum is Oppboga Truecoat Reverse. This white board has a light surface coating for print performance while giving an uncoated feel to the touch. The outstanding whiteness and smooth surface lend themselves perfectly to luxury packaging.
“Sustainability is a topic that continues to grow in importance, but here at Oppboga we have always sourced FSC-certified fibres from Scandinavian forests. Since 1950 the amount of wood produced in Sweden has tripled from 1 billion to 3 billion cubic metres”, says Mr. Robinson.
There is another point to be proud of – with a rate of 71%, Europe is the world champion in paper recycling (source: Two Sides Trend Tracker 2023), making paper one of the most recycled materials in the world (source: Cepi 2021).
