Koehler Paper meets the demand for sustainable flexible primary packaging for the non-food sector

Wednesday 03. May 2023 - Very good running properties on converting and packaging machines make it easy to switch from plastic to paper packaging. Koehler NexPlus Seal Pure awarded the Made for Recycling seal by environmental service provider Interseroh.

Koehler Paper, part of the Koehler Group, is expanding the application range of its flexible packaging papers and is implementing sustainable flexible paper packaging in the non-food sector for the first time. In addition to various flexible packaging papers for the food sector, the company offers Koehler NexPlus Seal Pure, a sustainable packaging option for products where no additional barriers are required: Whether screws, electronic components and parts, processors or LEDs – with Koehler NexPlus Seal Pure in basis weights of 35, 40, 45, 65 or 80 g/m², the products receive a tear-resistant, stable and sustainable packaging. In May 2023, Koehler Paper will present the first screw packaging at the Interpack trade fair in Düsseldorf and launch the new packaging solution on the market.
“Koehler NexPlus Seal Pure” makes it easy to switch to sustainable product packaging in the non-food sector
Like all other Koehler NexPlus papers, Koehler NexPlus Seal Pure is also heat-sealable and, thanks to its strength properties, is very well suited for further processing on all standard packaging machines on the market. In most cases, brand manufacturers and packers do not have to reckon with significant investment costs when converting to recyclable paper packaging. Adjustments to a few parameters on existing packaging machines, such as sealing temperatures, are often sufficient to optimise sealing times and thus the packaging result. “Together with our partner Schneider Electric, we have implemented a pilot project in recent months and extensively tested the new Koehler NexPlus Seal Pure packaging paper for the non-food sector. In addition to its high strength and simultaneous suppleness, it is characterised in particular by its excellent printability, for example for product illustrations or application notes, and can be used on the existing packaging lines at high cycle rates,” says Christoph Wachter, Division Manager of Flexible Packaging Papers at Koehler Paper, explaining the advantages of the product. In addition, the flexible packaging papers significantly reduce the CO2 footprint compared to conventional plastic packaging and provide a positive image transfer to the product and company brand.
Sustainable packaging: Innovative paper solutions with “NexFlex” from Koehler Paper
With the NexFlex product range, Koehler Paper has developed a unique and 100 percent recyclable generation of flexible packaging papers. The aim is to replace plastic in packaging – where possible – through the use of so-called barrier papers. The range covers a broad spectrum: it includes standard coated and uncoated papers as used in laminates for pouches, sachets and other applications, making them suitable for a wide variety of packaging for food and non-food products. The next generation of papers for flexible packaging are the sustainable barrier papers with their functional surfaces for product-specific protection (NexPlus). The wider NexFlex product family also includes one-side coated papers with good dimensional stability and high smoothness (NexCoat) and uncoated papers with a natural appearance (NexPure). Various flexible packaging papers from Koehler Paper have been awarded the “Made for Recycling” seal with 19 out of 20 possible points by the environmental service provider Interseroh.
