K 2022 benefits from new HEPA filters in the exhibition halls
Friday 17. June 2022 - These high-performance particle filters ensure the highest air quality in operating theatres, intensive care units and now also at Messe Düsseldorf and Düsseldorf Congress. Halls 1, 9 to 17 and the Congress Center Düsseldorf have already been retrofitted.
Messe Düsseldorf is coming up with a new technical highlight: By the end of June 2022, the entire Düsseldorf trade fair and congress grounds will be equipped with HEPA filters. These high-performance particle filters bring clinically clean air into the halls while at the same time reducing heating and cooling energy consumption.
It is currently the most effective air treatment technology: HEPA filters remove 99.9 per cent of viruses, bacteria and other particles from the air and return the purified air to the room. These high-performance particle filters ensure the highest air quality in operating theatres, intensive care units and now also at Messe Düsseldorf and Düsseldorf Congress. Halls 1, 9 to 17 and the Congress Center Düsseldorf have already been retrofitted. The Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection has covered 80 per cent of the investment sum of 1.4 million euros for the complete retrofitting within the framework of a funding programme.
Risk of infection reduced to a minimum
Wolfram N. Diener, Chairman of the Board of Management of Messe Düsseldorf, emphasises the advantages for the restart of the Düsseldorf trade fairs: “Our new HEPA filters help to ensure that we can offer all guests the greatest possible protection during our trade fairs. Together with our high-performance ventilation systems, our voluntary hygiene measures, our extensive grounds and spacious halls, we reduce the risk of infection to a minimum. After two pandemic years and a period of intense digital communication, attendees can once again network, initiate business and experience innovation with a good feeling.”
Contribution to sustainability
The HEPA filters complement and relieve the already powerful ventilation system at Messe Düsseldorf. The fully automated system with 60,000 measuring points ensures optimum air quality and brings ten million cubic metres of fresh outdoor air into the halls every hour via ten kilometres of ventilation pipes. Bernhard J. Stempfle, Managing Director Finance and Infrastructure, emphasises the efficiency: “The HEPA filters reduce the heating and cooling energy consumption of our ventilation systems and enable an energetically sensible operation. When outside temperatures are low, we can add warm hall air to the incoming outside air, thus reducing the heating requirement and still achieve clinically clean supply air. Thus, the HEPA filters also make an important contribution to a sustainable trade fair.”
In addition to the HEPA filters and the ventilation systems, Messe Düsseldorf’s voluntary hygiene measures provide additional protection against infection. For example, the company continues to recommend wearing medical masks on the grounds and keeping a distance of 1.5 metres from other people. In addition, it provides disinfectant dispensers and has frequently used contact surfaces cleaned several times a day. Distance markings in waiting areas ensure that crowds of people are kept apart, for example in front of information desks and cash registers. Doors, if they are not fire doors, are set up so that they can be passed through without contact. Transparent partitions at service and information counters also remain in place.
