UPM Raflatac expands its CarbonNeutral product range – Linerless range now CarbonNeutral certified
Monday 16. May 2022 - With Linerless direct thermal labels, customers can reduce their packaging footprint. Linerless labels can reduce material consumption by up to 40 per cent compared to conventional labels, offering significant sustainability and efficiency benefits.
UPM Raflatac is expanding its range of CarbonNeutral labelled products with the CarbonNeutral certification of its entire linerless range. The certification by Natural Capital Partners was done in accordance with the CarbonNeutral protocol, a globally recognised, practical standard for carbon neutrality.
The market for linerless direct thermal labels has grown by around 15 per cent in recent years.
And with Carbon Trust certification, the packaging footprint has become even smaller. This CarbonNeutral product certification reassures customers that the company has taken all measures to identify, accurately measure and then reduce the emissions caused by manufacturing, raw materials and transport for linerless products.
“UPM Raflatac’s goal is to eliminate the use of fossil raw materials. This means that we are constantly developing new solutions to reduce the CO2 emissions of our products. This is not only a prerequisite for meeting our climate pledges, but also for meeting the high and ever-increasing market demand for sustainable label solutions. The new CarbonNeutral product certification of our linerless range is a great addition to our CarbonNeutral product portfolio, which already includes the RAFNXT+ products. It allows us to offer our customers even more sustainable solutions and enables them to make a tangible contribution to climate protection,” says Robert Taylor, Sustainability Director at UPM Raflatac.
The greenhouse gases generated in the production process are fully offset by global projects recognised by international standards such as the Gold Standard. In this way, UPM Raflatac is offsetting today’s unavoidable emissions for its customers. Customers can offset the emissions associated with UPM Raflatac’s linerless products in their Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
“We are working with leading organisations to actively implement measures to tackle climate change and make the world a more sustainable place. Our inclusive approach helps companies like UPM Raflatac reduce their environmental impact by using carbon offset solutions that support sustainable development. UPM Raflatac’s new CarbonNeutral product is another important step towards climate protection,” says Natalie Taylor, Director of Client Solutions at Natural Capital Partners.
The Linerless line’s improvements to sustainability are part of UPM Raflatac’s efforts to make the entire label industry carbon neutral. UPM is among the first forest industry companies to commit to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s 1.5 degree target to take concrete action to mitigate climate change. In addition, UPM has joined The Climate Pledge initiative. This commits the company to achieving climate neutrality as early as 2040 – a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement target.
