EFI and Xerox Team Up to Bring Increased Power and Productivity to Digital Color Printing

Friday 20. March 2015 - EFI (Nasdaq:EFII) today announced new EFI Fiery digital front ends (DFEs) for Xerox's newest digital presses. The Xerox EX-i 80 Print Server and EX 80 Print Server Powered by Fiery are available on the Xerox Versant 80 Press, while the Xerox EX-P 1000i Print Server Powered by Fiery is available for Xerox Color 800i/1000i Presses.

“The combination of our advanced production printing solutions and EFI Fiery technologies will help ensure that our customers have the high-end quality and automated, streamlined productivity they need to advance in a competitive marketplace,” said Robert Stabler, senior vice president, Graphic Communications, Xerox.
“Image quality has always been one of the most important criteria customers use to evaluate a printing solution,” said Toby Weiss, senior vice president and general manager, EFI Fiery. “We are pleased to continue our long-term relationship with Xerox by offering Xerox customers the exceptional image quality in these three new EFI Fiery solutions.”
The new DFEs utilize the latest Fiery platform, FS150 Pro, offering faster processing; unsurpassed, award-winning quality; and easier-to-use, automated workflows. Users can also drive broader business process automation efficiencies by fully integrating their Fiery Driven digital presses with EFI’s market-leading MIS/ERP and web-to-print software and with Xerox FreeFlow Core, as well as leading prepress workflow solutions like Agfa Apogee, Heidelberg Prinect and Kodak PRINERGY.
Xerox EX-i/EX 80 Print Servers
The Xerox EX-i and EX 80 Print Servers feature Fiery Ultra Smooth Gradients, which leverage a 10-bit, 1,200-dpi processing technology at the digital front end and at the print engine. First seen in the new Fiery servers driving the Xerox Versant 2100 Press, Fiery Ultra Smooth Gradients go beyond traditional 8-bit rendering to help eliminate “stair-stepped” gradient shades in digital printing of vector images.
More demanding printing environments can choose the Xerox EX 80 Print Server, which supports the Adobe PDF Print Engine, version 3.0 and offers powerful Fiery options for make-ready, color correction, file troubleshooting and workflow integration. Less-demanding environments can take advantage of a lower cost of entry while still reaping the benefits of a Fiery-powered workflow for exceptional color quality with the Xerox EX-i 80 Print Server.
Xerox EX-P 1000i Print Server
The Xerox EX-P 1000i Print Server Powered by Fiery supports the new Gold and Silver Metallic Dry Ink options featured in Xerox Color 800i/1000i Presses, enabling the automatic addition of these specialty dry inks, as well as Clear Dry Ink in single or multiple passes, to highlight spot colors, graphics and text.
“This capability is especially attractive in commercial and photo applications,” said EFI’s Weiss. “Special effects have a new dimension with Multi-Pass Clear Dry Ink for embossed, high-quality prints that satisfy the needs of even the most demanding customers. Fiery Image Enhance Visual Editor not only allows on-the-fly addition of Metallic and Clear Dry Inks, but also offers a live 3D preview simulating how the effects will sparkle in the light.”
The Xerox EX-P 1000i also includes the Fiery Smart Estimator, which allows users to predict usage of Clear Dry Ink, Gold Metallic Dry Ink or Silver Metallic Dry Ink before printing a single page. Plus, it features Fiery HyperRIP, which helps maximize performance by simultaneously processing a print job on four processor cores. As a result, users can get their full-color digital print jobs processed up to 55% faster than Fiery Driven presses without HyperRIP.
Users can achieve a consistent workflow across all Fiery-enabled printing devices using the latest version of Fiery Command WorkStation, the powerful, intuitive interface that enables management of multiple printers locally or remotely from a single place.
The new EFI Fiery DFEs are available now through Xerox and authorized Xerox resellers.
