Graphic Communication Technologies Program at Milton Hershey School Receives Prestigious Kagy Education Award of Excellence
Thursday 17. October 2013 - Printing Industries of America is pleased to announce that Graphic Communication Technologies (GCT) program at Milton Hershey School (MHS) in Hershey, Pennsylvania, has been honored with the 2013 Frederick D. Kagy Education Award of Excellence for its dedication to helping students achieve rewarding careers in the graphic communications industry.
Chocolate pioneer Milton S. Hershey, along with his wife, Catherine, founded a school in 1909 to help children grow into fulfilling and productive lives. Today, the Milton Hershey School is a cost-free home and school to nearly 1,900 girls and boys from families with low income. By continually assessing the program, upgrading technology and equipment, and partnering with local printing businesses, the program is able to stay on the cutting edge of the graphic communication industry.
The Graphic Communication Technologies program, a part of the Career/Technology Education programs, typically serves between 80-100 freshman students, with approximately 60 students choosing this area of study as their primary career pathway.
The Graphic Communication Technologies program serves as a dual-purpose program, delivering a curriculum for both career and postsecondary education preparation. Students are assessed throughout the experience in both hands-on skills as well as academic knowledge.
This year’s Kagy Award will be presented to a program representative from the winning school at Printing Industries of America’s Fall Administrative Meetings, November 15-17, 2013 in Chicago, IL. This forum hosts an impressive audience of industry leaders, including boards of directors and committee members from Printing Industries of America, its Ben Franklin Honor Society, and the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF).
