Discover the Tracks Developed Specifically for Standards Experts at the 2013 Color Management Conference

Friday 27. September 2013 - The 2013 Color Management Conference will offer attendees the opportunity to get up-to-date on the very latest developments in ISO standards from the Chairman of the Committee for Graphic Arts Standards (CGATS), Ray Cheydleur, OEM Technical Manager, X-Rite.

Cheydleur’s session, “The Latest Scoop on ISO 12647 and 15339,” will delve into the latest developments in the ISO 12647 and new ISO 15339 digital printing-focused standards. Attendees will learn about ANSI-CGATS 21-1:2013, the part of CGATS 21 that establishes principles for the use of color characterization data as the definition of the intended relationship between input data and printed color for copy preparation, job assembly, proofing, and graphic arts production printing.
Cheydleur will also deliver “Deep Dive: Measurement Tolerances and How M0, M1, M2, M3 Come into Play.” This session will take an in-depth look at measurement tolerances and explain the measurement modes M0, M1, M2, and M3 as defined in ISO 13655:2009. These measurement modes were created in accordance with ISO 13655, which defines the needs for spectral measurement equipment for the graphic arts industry.
The 2013 Color Management Conference, slated for December 7-10, 2013 in Phoenix AZ, will feature tracks developed specifically for all professionals involved in the color management process: Brand Managers, Designers, Production Professionals, and Standards Experts.
Other sessions developed specifically for the Standards Experts include:
Must-See Innovative Technologies!
Dr. Mark Bohan, Printing Industries of America
In this session, attendees will hear about some fascinating new products that have been identified by an independent panel of technology decision makers to have a major impact on the graphic arts and related industries. Among the technologies are 2013 InterTech Technology Award Recipients GMG OpenColor, ORIS Lynx, and Aproove.
Resolving Spot to CMYK Color Differences in Your Projects
Rich Apollo, Rods and Cones
Pantone, as a company, recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, and its PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM has been influencing design and color decisions from the very beginning. In recent years, changes were made to the system, including PANTONE PLUS, which added 500 new colors to the system, for a total of 1,677 solid color options. Why did Pantone change a successful 50-year-old product? What is the impact of PANTONE PLUS on existing and new design projects? Apollo will address these questions as well as why some spot colors are so hard to match in process printing and why spot color tints are so difficult to proof. Come out of this session with a clearer understanding of the relationships between spot and CMYK process colors and when to use which for optimal efficiency, cost savings, and visual impact.
Techniques to Assess Color for Pass/Fail
Dave Hunter, Principal, Pilot Marketing
In this session, Hunter will discuss standards for G7 Press Conformance and Proofing and differentiate between G7 Gray, G7 Target, G7 Colorspace and ISO12647-2, -3, -4 -5 and Proofing 12647-7.
Achieving Optimal Color on Toner-based Digital Presses
Kirk Szymanski, Director Product Planning, Ricoh USA
In this session, Kirk Szymanski will demonstration a step-by-step process to achieve desired color on a digital press, including print engine setup, densitometric tuning forconciseness, and colorimetric tuning and verification for accuracy.
PDF, Color, and Mobile Devices
Dov Isaacs, Adobe Systems Incorporated
Isaacs will explore the new Adobe operating system and challenges, especially those associated with proper rendering of color and sharing of PDF content between traditional computing platforms, mobile devices, and printers.
The Lowdown on Reference Print Conditions (RPC)
Dave Hunter, Principal, Pilot Marketing
The seven Reference Printing Conditions proposed in ISO 15339—and now an official ANSI/CGATS Standard—are all G7-based but all have different color gamuts. Hunter will discuss how these conditions will affect how companies that care about color will manage color in the workflow and how it will affect both hard and soft proofing on any technology or device. He will also cover what you need to understand about the ISO 3668 Lighting Standard and the CXF file format that is replacing CGAT,s text files as a way to communicate color throughout the production chain in addition to how it covers both spot and process colors and all measurement modes in one file.
