Harland Simon to upgrade another manroland press

Monday 19. August 2013 - Harland Simon has been contracted by The Lincoln Journal-Star, NE to complete the latest manroland upgrade on their Flexoman press, originally installed in 2000. This represents the continuation of Harland Simon's relationship with Lee Enterprises, following successful projects in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Montana and California.

While the press retrofit market remains active, as publications invest shrewdly to enhance production capabilities, competition is fierce. Lee’s decision to continue the 10+ year partnership demonstrates their trust in Harland Simon’s consistent commitment to reasonably priced support services, independently and locally available hardware, now and into the future.
It was Harland Simon’s uniquely standardized solution across multiple press platforms, their ability to engineer solutions to improve original system architectures, and the long list of satisfied users and management teams that tipped the balance.
The upgrade will replace the servers, management information system and control consoles with standard Windows based PCs and servers. The ArcNet based controllers will be replaced with Allen-Bradley devices, and the Baumuller drives will be upgraded to the latest generation. The software for each component will be available to the Lincoln Journal Star support teams and stored on site. Delivering an independently priced system that can be supported locally without the reliance on inconsistent outside support.
The concept of self-supportability, open software and locally available hardware opened the eyes of the Lincoln Journal-Star team to what is available today, they saw the long term benefits and inherent value and in such a solution.
