Cal Poly Initiates Online Graduate Certificate in Printed Electronic and Functional Imaging
Friday 02. August 2013 - Cal Poly's Graphic Communication Department will offer a new graduate-level program in printed electronics and functional imaging in January 2014. The curriculum is designed to help working professionals learn about markets; production processes; materials and business models for printed electronics; active and "intelligent" packaging; security printing; and other functional, additive printing applications.
“There are five online graduate courses in the certificate program,” said graduate coordinator Malcolm Keif. “The intent is to help industry professionals gain critical knowledge in these emerging fields using world-class online education models. This is not simply a series of webinars; it is a meaningful, instructor-led program with classmates, homework and due dates.”
The entire certificate can be completed in 12 months. The program is comprised of five courses, most of which last eight weeks. Courses are held online, yet students can expect to interact with fellow students like they would in a classroom.
Department Chair Ken Macro is excited about launching the program. “It has been in the works for more than two years, and we are confident we can provide a first-rate experience for professionals,” he said.
Applications are due Oct.1, 2013, for classes starting in January 2014. Students must already have a bachelor’s degree to apply.
