Axel Springer is planning a new Media Campus in Berlin
Tuesday 28. May 2013 - Axel Springer announces a design contest for a new Media Campus in the center of Berlin. Mathias Döpfner, Chief Executive Officer of Axel Springer AG, presented his vision of the building project on Monday, 27th May 2013 to representatives of approximately twenty architect's offices in the Axel Springer Building in Berlin and informed them about the further steps for tendering.
Established international architectural firms, as well as avant-garde architects have been invited to the event. The Axel Springer Campus will be built on the “Lindenpark” plot in the immediate vicinity of headquarters of Axel Springer AG and will offer space in particular for the company’s digital daughter companies.
“The building should not only be overwhelmingly beautiful, but also address the question: What does material mean in a dematerialized media economy, what does an office mean in a mobile working environment, in which offices are no longer really required? The project can play a key role in the digital transformation of our company by bringing the digital subsidiaries which have so far been located on the periphery of the company into the center and networking them with the organization’s traditional brands,” said Mathias Döpfner at the presentation of the project.
The 10171 square meter “Lindenpark” plot is located in Berlin-Mitte. The area is framed by Schützenstrasse in the north, Axel-Springer-Strasse in the east, Zimmerstrasse in the south and Jerusalemstrasse in the west.
