Konica Minolta Helps St. Thomas University Overhaul Its Entire Print Operations

Tuesday 30. April 2013 - Provides University with Services for a Complete Desktop to Print Shop Solution with Hardware, Software and Workflow Optimization

Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta) today announces that St. Thomas University located in Miami Gardens, Fla., has implemented a complete desktop to print shop solution, leveraging services, software and hardware from Konica Minolta. In an effort to overhaul its entire print operations, the university replaced its aging student printers with print management software from Pharos and award-winning bizhub multifunctional products (MFPs) that allow for printing, copying, faxing and scanning from one system. It also added Konica Minolta digital production print systems to its in-plant print copy center and leveraged Konica Minolta Optimized Print Services to manage its entire print fleet.
Like many universities, St. Thomas University offered unlimited student printing. With rising printing costs, the university had limited capabilities to track and control printing. By replacing its printing fleet with 100 Konica Minolta bizhub MFPs and integrating them with the Pharos Uniprint Solution Suite, the school was able to analyze printing behavior and design a sustainable printing program. Students are now allotted a specific number of print impressions per semester and need to ask for an extension if they reach their limit.
“After a semester of monitoring we discovered that five percent of the users were responsible for 30 percent of the total number of pages printed,” says Rudy Ibarra, CIO, St. Thomas University. “The Konica Minolta and Pharos solution helps us control our printing by accurately monitoring and collecting this valuable data. In fact, the new bizhubs have already allowed us to reduce waste by ensuring that print jobs are held on the server until released by the users.”
St. Thomas University also updated its in-plant copy center equipment with new Konica Minolta digital production print systems including the bizhub PRESS 1051 Monochrome Production Print System and bizhub PRESS C7000 Color Production Print System. With the advanced features and increased finishing options of the Konica Minolta systems, the copy center saw savings of over $10,000 in just three months.
To manage it entire print operations, St. Thomas University now leverages Konica Minolta Optimized Print Services (OPS) for managed print services and has a dedicated Konica Minolta technician on-site to manage and service the fleet. This has consolidated vendors under one contract and freed up resources in the IT department.
“Customers are looking beyond single product solutions and want to partner with companies that offer complete integrated printing solutions,” says Sam Errigo, Senior Vice President, Business Intelligence Services, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. “Customers can count on the Konica Minolta EnvisionIT platform to provide them with comprehensive solutions that leverage award-winning print technology, vertical-specific software, as well as print and IT management services.”
