Post-Gazette moves to DTI Cloud, and expands digital revenue
Wednesday 13. February 2013 - SaaS agreement includes solutions for circulation, advertising, and paid content
Digital Technology International (DTI) has signed a SaaS (Software as a Service) agreement with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the largest daily newspaper in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, metropolitan area. Under the agreement, Digital Technology will implement DTI Circulation, the industry’s top-selling circulation solution, and upgrade the Post-Gazette’s ad department to an all-new version of DTI Advertising. Included in the agreement is Digital Paymeter, DTI’s new digital subscription solution, to expand digital revenue at the Post-Gazette. All software will be deployed via DTI Cloud, the company’s award-winning cloud-computing platform.
Initially titled The Gazette, the Post-Gazette traces its roots back to 1786 as the first newspaper in the United States published west of the Allegheny Mountains. As one of its first major articles, it published the newly-adopted US Constitution. As one of America’s oldest and most iconic newspapers, the Post-Gazette has a digital strategic plan to continue its growth into the future. The Post-Gazette actively researched circulation systems with this in mind to optimize its digital and print media operations and expand all revenue sources.
“With DTI’s proven track record, we believe that there are numerous solutions to existing problems that the DTI Circulation system will deliver to the Post-Gazette,” said Randy Waugaman, director of audience, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “We determined that DTI would offer us the proper mix of sales, marketing, and operational programs that will provide immediate and future benefits to our company.”
The Post-Gazette selected DTI Circulation for its proven functionality, integration, and ability to increase retention through its audience-centric subscriber management system and marketing campaign toolset. DTI’s unique ability to deliver a PCI compliant solution for customers’ credit card transactions was also an important requirement for the Post-Gazette.
With DTI Cloud, the Post-Gazette will get proven and reliable technology, with upgrades that are performed automatically without the time and efforts required with an on-premises system upgrade. The Post-Gazette will always have the most current versions of software.
Anticipating digital growth through e-editions of the Pittsburgh Press and the Post-Gazette, and through a number of other digital products in various formats, the Post-Gazette will use Digital Paymeter as its digital subscription solution to build up digital product offeringspowering future growth and revenue expansion.
Waugaman continues, “The Post-Gazette, like approximately half of the newspapers in this country, has determined that the time is right to start charging for our offerings whether they are print or digital. We have readers for iPads, iPhones and the Android products as well as sports-related apps that we have developed. We simply needed the vehicle that could make this happen and DTI offers this solution.”
“The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s long history is impressive and certainly a testimony to the company’s ability to adapt and change over time,” said Dan Paulus, president, Digital Technology. “Their move to a cloud publishing model with DTI Cloud is one more example of how the Post-Gazette is prepared for what’s next. We are proud to partner with a media company that is 227-years old but never complacent about its future.”
