East Moors Bindery adopts Polar Autotrim technology

Wednesday 31. October 2012 - A beefy Polar guillotine line has been installed at East Moors Bindery, part of the Westdale Group, this month. It has taken delivery of a flowline comprising Polar 115N Pro Autotrim, lift, jogger and Transomat downloader.

“The issue with guillotines is that they never die,” says Alan Padbury, managing director. “The group had four guillotine lines but this investment means we can reduce down to three. We are retaining a 1985 guillotine as back up here in Cardiff but the 1996 Polar will move down to our soft binding arm, Western Print Finishing in Bristol.”
The 1985 model Polar marked the start up of Westdale and in those days Alan Padbury used to operate it himself.
The new Polar N115 Pro Autotrim line will boost productivity in the medium to high volume run market and it will automatically remove the waste paper as it goes, enabling the company to recycle the offcuts simply and efficiently. That leaves the operator free to focus on the cutting.
“We looked at a number of guillotines but this was the best deal. It did everything we wanted it to do at the right price. The installation has taken place and we have had no problems with it at all. It will work around the clock in line with the rest of the plant,” says Mr Padbury.
Mr Padbury first viewed the equipment at Drupa when Polar launched the N Plus standard and N Pro top of the range models with the 18.5 inch and the enlarged 22 inch touch screen and Linus software respectively. The N stands for network-capable high speed cutters. These are 11th generation guillotines that succeed the X and XT lines and recognise that full integration into data workflows and MIS systems is becoming a reality.
