21 Colour beefs up its folding capacity with a move to Stahlfolder technology

Thursday 06. September 2012 - 21 Colour is replacing a ten year old MBO folder with a Stahlfolder KH 56. The company decided on a combination folder because of its compact build as well as its ability to handle a range of formats and run lengths.

“This is a more automated folder so it will be faster to makeready. We looked at all the folder options but having bought a press from Heidelberg last year we know that the service they offer is superb. We haven’t had to use it much but when there is an issue they are there for you,” says Philip Cole, sales director.
The press was the first Speedmaster XL 75-10-P in Scotland and included Inpress Control automated colour and register adjustment and Prinect Pressroom Manager workflow.
That marked a move away from manroland so it is perhaps less surprising that the company was also willing to switch folder manufacturer. One of the tenets of 21 colour is that it uses the best and most modern equipment to maximise efficiency and this folder was deemed to produce the best work and a broad range of jobs at very high speeds.
From delivery in early autumn, the Stahlfolder KH 56 will move immediately to double day shifts. Although there is some nervousness at moving from a manual to a more computerised machine, the operators have seen the Stahlfolder in action and are excited about the update.
