Houston Chronicle Unveils New Chron.com

Wednesday 05. September 2012 - New design includes improved navigational tools and a new logo

Chron.com, the website of the Houston Chronicle and the city’s most-read local news site, has undergone a dramatic facelift. The site has relaunched with a major redesign and updated user experience. Highlights include a new logo and color scheme, improved navigational tools and a revamped presentation that more prominently features local content from Chronicle journalists.
“The new layout and navigation on Chron.com better position us to deliver to our readers what they’ve asked for – news that is unique to Houston and important to Houstonians,” said Andrea Mooney, the executive producer of Chron.com. “It surely will get Houston talking.”
The new layout is simple and clean, with bright colors and large photos enhance the visual experience. A straightforward navigation provides readers with more entry points to content, making it easier to dig deeper into the day’s news without having to revisit the homepage or running into a dead end. Niche content sites, such as the award-winning Fuel Fix and 29-95 sites, are highly visible.
Improved tools facilitate users’ abilities to share content to Facebook, Twitter and Google+. Additionally, new technology allows readers to highlight the most relevant user comments, elevating intelligent dialogue.
Chron.com experienced an unprecedented surge in visitors in July with more 90 million page views and 11.3 million unique users, indicating a popularity growth wave the Chronicle hopes to ride as the greater Houston population expands, opportunities specialize and needs diversity.
“Our metropolitan area is growing, and Chron.com is evolving to meet the needs of our community,” said Mooney.
