Digital First Media Announces Editorial Promotions
Monday 03. September 2012 - New Editors Named in Connecticut and Pennsylvania
Digital First Media, which operates MediaNews Group, Journal Register Company and Digital First Ventures, today named new editors for The Register Citizen in Torrington, Conn., The Middletown Press in Middletown, Conn. and Main Line Media in Ardmore, Pa.
John Berry has been named Editor of The Register Citizen in Torrington, Conn. and The Middletown Press in Middletown, Conn.; Ann DeMatteo has been named Managing Editor of The Middletown Press; Viktoria Sundqvist has been named Investigations Editor for both The Register Citizen and Middletown Press; and Andy Stettler has been named Executive Editor of Main Line Media in Ardmore, Pa.

During their time with the Company all of them have shown they understand that we are here to serve and inform the community and that we must focus not just on the news of the day but how that news impacts the lives of everyone who lives where we live,” said Jim Brady, Editor-in-Chief of Digital First Media.
Mr. Berry will oversee all newsgathering efforts at both The Register Citizen and The Middletown Press. He is a life-long resident of the Philadelphia area and will be relocating to Torrington. A graduate of Temple University, Mr. Berry joined The Times Herald in Norristown, Pa. in 2000 as a staff photographer and was promoted to Online Editor in 2007.
An award-winning journalist, Mr. Berry, a member of Journal Register Company’s ideaLab, also attended the Knight Digital Media Center’s Web 2.0 workshop and has led various training programs for Journal Register Company.
Ms. DeMatteo, who graduated from the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, Conn., is an award-winning journalist with 34 years experience covering the communities of Greater New Haven.
She is an active volunteer with the Miss Connecticut Scholarship Corporation, serving as the secretary, and is a former national president of Omega Phi Alpha National Service Sorority. She has also received honors from many community organizations including the MADD Media Award; Hamden Education Foundation Distinguished Alumni Award; Honorary Survivor, Hamden-North Haven Relay for Life; Humanitarian Award, Columbus Day Committee of Greater New Haven; Notable Citizen Award, Hamden Chamber of Commerce; “Wise Woman” Award from the Connecticut affiliate of the National Organization of Italian-American Women.
Ms. Sundqvist, who most recently served as Editor of The Middletown Press, will focus on investigative and enterprise reporting in the newly created Investigations Editor post serving both The Register Citizen and The Middletown Press. Ms. Sundqvist, who also previously served as Managing Editor of The Register Citizen and is a member of Journal Register Company’s ideaLab, will focus on Freedom of Information Act reporting and will work with the Investigative Team at the New Haven Register as well as partners like Pro Publica and the Associated Press.
Ms. Sundqvist holds a Master’s Degree in Journalism from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn.
Mr. Stettler joined the Company in 2009 as Video and Online Editor for Montgomery Media, covering Montgomery County including Ambler, Glenside, Roxborough, Willow Grove and Perkasie. He was promoted to Assistant Online Editor for The Reporter in 2011 and was named The Reporter’s Community Engagement Editor earlier this year.
In 2010, Mr. Stettler, a graduate of Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa., was also selected as one of the editors to lead the Company’s Ben Franklin Project, a unique open-source publishing experiment where Journal Register used free and low-cost digital tools to publish its newspapers and websites.
